Stephen D. Willett
Athlete: 1965-1969
The defensive lines attorney Stephen Willett's studies today are a lot different than the ones he looked at as a member of the La Crosse football team. He still wrestles opponents, but now figuratively instead of literally. Willett spent falls on the gridiron and took to the wrestling mat during the winters while attending UW-L. He lettered in both sports all four years. In wrestling, he excelled at the 177 weight level. He was named Wisconsin State University Conference champion in '68 and state collegiate wrestling champ in '68 and '69. He earned NAIA all-district honors his sophomore through senior years, the same years he was wrestling team captain. He was the university's most valuable wrestler in '68. Willett earned three degrees after graduating from UW-L with history and political science majors--a law degree, a master's in management and a doctorate in business administration.
