    1972 State Fencing Champion was just one honor Mary Clancy earned from her collegiate sporting endeavors. Clancy's fencing earned her the Midwest under-19 championship, two jabs at national competition and participation in the Pan American Game finals. Along with fencing, she played field hockey and qualified for a Midwestern college team in 1972.

    After graduation, Clancy headed to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces where she taught physical education and coached while studying for a master's. After earning a master's, she moved across the state to Fort Sumner to teach and coach. In 1976, she began teaching and coaching at Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y.

    Many of her basketball, softball, track and volleyball teams where qualified for state competition. In 1989, she began teaching at Winston-Salem (N.C.) State University, where she coordinated the physical education teacher preparation program. From 1973-1987, Clancy was also involved in athletic training.
