Coach: 1968-1979
Martha "Martie" Stephens coached women's badminton at UW-L from 1968-79 and coached women's tennis from 1968-76. Neither of her teams ever lost a conference championship during her tenure as coach. In national AIAW badminton tournaments, Stephen's teams tied for second place, placed fourth, placed fifth and placed other teams in the top 10 with only one-half of a team complement.
Stephens received her bachelor's degree in 1963 from Appalachian State Teachers College, where she competed in tennis basketball and volleyball. She has participated in many badminton and tennis workshops around the area.
She has also served on numerous departmental and university committees. Stephens was also the tournament director for the WWIAC women's basketball championship in 1984. She was a physical education instructor at UW-L from 1968-1999.
