Garmen Ammerman excelled on the basketball court during college. During his professional career, he has excelled at counseling. Ammerman accomplished numerous feats on the courts, including setting records for most field goals in one season and all-time most points total scoring more than 300 points in three seasons, and being selected all-conference first team two years. He was captain of the 1959-60 squad.
Ammerman taught and coached baseball, basketball, football and tennis at Onalaska and New London. After earning a masters in 1964, he began counseling at Madison La Follette High School. In 1966, he returned to UW-L to be assistant dean of men and an assistant professor. Ammerman returned to UW-Madison in 1969 to begin a doctorate. After earning a Ph.D. in 1972, he went back to La Follette where he has been a counselor since. He continued his interest in sports by coaching youth programs in baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer.
