La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and UW-River Falls lacrosse teams are joining forces to raise funds to support Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation's (PCRF) LaCROSSEe Out Cancer with the 2nd Annual Bird Bowl on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
This year's contest is set to played at UW-River Falls' Ramer Field at 5 p.m. UWL earned a 14-13 victory last season at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
UWL and UW-River Falls face off in the last game of each season starting in 2027.
A trophy is presented to the winning team each season with the game tied to a charitable initiative. Both teams will partner with LaCROSSe Out Cancer for the second straight season.
"Our inaugural Bird Bowl in 2025 was a huge success," said UWL Head Coach
Nick Anagnostis. "UW-River Falls and UWL raised over $5,000 for pediatric cancer research and we had a thrilling game to boot! Entering year two, we are more excited than ever to continue this new rivalry series and philanthropic effort between the two programs."
Each day, 41 American children are diagnosed with cancer and more children under 20 years old are lost to cancer annually than any other disease. Advancing research that has a high potential for saving lives and doing so without the toxic side effects that are prevalent today is the only solution.
PCRF is committed to improving the lives of childhood cancer patients and survivors and their families. After analyzing data from many different channels, PCRF identified three areas that represent the most pressing issues currently facing those affected by childhood cancer: Powering Research, Equitable Care, and Survivorship & Mental Health.
