Chicago, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned a 13-3 victory at Illinois Tech Sunday afternoon at Stuart Field.
The Eagles improve to 6-1 with the Scarlet Hawks drop to 2-5.
After Illinois Tech opened the scoring on Antonia Martinez' goal with 13:07 remaining in the first quarter, UWL scored the game's next 11 goals.
Ava Schiltz tied it at 1-1 with 11:38 left and
Tori Katzenmeyer's goal at 11:06 off an
Evie Brilz assist gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead. UWL added three more goals in the first quarter. Brilz scored at 10:19 to make it 3-1 and
Anna Millard's goal with 9:26 remaining extended the lead to 4-1. Schiltz recorded assists on both goals. Brilz finished the first quarter scoring with 1:40 left to give UWL a 5-1 lead.
Katzenmeyer scored the only goal of the second quarter to make it 6-1 at halftime.
UWL outscored Illinois Tech, 5-0, in the third quarter.
Megan Maloney had two goals in the quarter while Schiltz, Katzenmeyer and
Emily Wrobbel each added one. Maloney, Katzenmeyer and Wrobbel had man-up goals.
The Scarlet Hawks tallied the first two goals of the fourth quarter with Ava Roll and Martinez scoring.
Adison Brown and Paige Meyers scored for the Eagles with Brown recording an assist on Myers' goal.
UWL finished with 32 shots with 22 on goal. Katzenmeyer tallied three goals and one assist while Schiltz had two goals and two assists. Brilz finished with two goals and one assist while Maloney scored twice.
Katzenmeyer and Maloney each had a team-high four ground balls while Milliard recorded a team-leading three draw controls.
Stefania Rossi earned the win, playing the first half with one save.
Lucretia Morgan played the second half, finishing with one save.
Illinois Tech totaled eight shots, including five on goal. Martinez had two goals for the Scarlet Hawks.
Kelly Hitchcock led Illinois Tech with seven ground balls and three draw controls. Martinez also had three draw controls.
Samantha Gargiulo took the loss, registering 11 saves.
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 28 at UW-Stout at 12 p.m. to open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play.
