Aurora, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned a 15-7 victory at Aurora University (Ill.) Friday afternoon at Spartan Athletic Park.
The Eagles improve to 5-1 with the Spartans dropping to 2-5.
UWL never trailed Friday, scoring the first three goals.
Evie Brilz scored the first goal of the game at 14:32 followed by goals from
Angie Olla and
Ava Schiltz for a 3-0 lead. Schiltz scored a man-up goal.
The Spartans' Ava Courtney scored a man-up goal with 4:53 remaining in the first quarter to cut the lead to 3-1. Nicolina Smith's goal with 1:24 left cut it to 4-2 after the first quarter.
Megan Maloney (13:29 left) and Anna Milard (12:30) extended UWL's lead to 5-2 in the second quarter. Aurora (Ill.) cut it to 5-3 with 9:08 remaining and Smith's man-up goal made it 5-4 with 6:24 left.
The score remained, 5-4, at halftime.
UWL outscored Aurora (Ill.), 10-3, in the second half, including 6-0 in the third quarter. Maloney,
Tori Katzenmeyer, Olla and
Adison Brown each scored a goal to make it 9-4 while Schiltz tallied a pair of goals in the quarter for a 11-4 advantage.
Millard's goal with 14:24 left in the fourth quarter extended the lead to 12-4. Schiltz and Katzenmeyer scored to make it 14-4.
Courtney, Eva Taute and Smith scored for Aurora (Ill.) to cut it to 14-7 before
Maggie Sadowski finished the scoring for UWL with 1:36 remaining.
UWL finished with 30 shots, including 20 on goal. Schiltz led the Eagles with four goals while Maloney, Millard, Katzenmeyer and Olla each had two. Brilz recorded three assists.
Lydia Spencer and
Anna Jenson each had four ground balls while Jenson finished with a team-high two caused turnovers. Olla led the Eagles with six draw controls.
Stefania Rossi earned the win, recording five saves.
Aurora (Ill.) totaled 16 shots with 11 coming on goal. Smith finished with three goals and Courtney two.
Smith had five ground balls and four draw controls.
Meghan Ginty took the loss, registering seven saves for the Spartans.
UWL returns to action Sunday, March 22 at Illinois Tech at 12 p.m.
