La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track and field team will strive for its sixth straight title and 12th in 13 years at the 2026 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship (Presented by Culver's) hosted by UW-Platteville at Williams Fieldhouse. The 49th edition of the league meet is scheduled to start Friday, February 27 and runs through Saturday, February 28 in unison with the 57th gathering of the men's teams.
This year's women's championship starts Friday, February 27 at 11:30 a.m. and continues Saturday, February 28 starting at 10 a.m.
UWL enters the meet ranked first in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Track & Field National Rating Index (TFRI) distributed by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released on February 24. UW-Eau Claire is ranked 11th, UW-Oshkosh 14th, UW-Platteville 15th and UW-Stout 22nd.
UWL captured its league record 31st title (1978-81, 1983, 1985-87, 1994, 1997, 2000-05, 2007-10, 2013-18, 2020, 2022-25) in school history last year with 287.5 team points. UW-Eau Claire placed second last year (106.5 points) followed by UW-Stout (73.0), UW-Oshkosh (66.0), UW-Whitewater (58.0), UW-Platteville (36.5), UW-River Falls (21.0) and UW-Stevens Point (14.5).
UW-Oshkosh has won 13 conference crowns (1988-93, 1995-96, 1998-99, 2006, 2011-2012) while UW-Eau Claire has one (2019). Former conference members UW-Milwaukee has won two league titles (1982, 1984) and UW-Madison one (1977).
Six individual WIAC champions return for UWL in 2026, including
Samantha Barrett (2024, 2025 triple jump),
Ainsley Hansen (2023 high jump),
Hailie Kent (2023 triple jump),
Anna Plautz (400-meter dash),
Alli Thomas (800-meter run) and
Madilyn Vander Sanden (2025 shot put).
In relays, Plautz and
Sarah Grubbs were on the first-place 4x400-meter in 2024 while Plautz,
Sarah Grubbs,
Andie Otto and
Macy Reybrock were members of the winning 4x400 last season.
Bryn Sato,
Kylie Stockton and
Jocelyn Thomson were on UWL's first-place distance medley relay last season.
Reybrock was selected the 2025 WIAC Newcomer of the Year.
Plautz is ranked fifth (55.47) in the 400-meter dash and eighth (24.57) in the 200-meter dash on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll. The Eagles' Julia Yang is fifth (7.57) and
McKenna Sedlacek eighth (7.59) in the 60-meter dash while
Regan Scott is 10th (8.70) in the 60-meter hurdles.
UWL ranks fourth (3:46.92) in the 4x400-meter relay and ninth (11:43.52) in the distance medley relay.
Madison Habberstad is currently second (13-5 ¼),
Araceli De Leo Lopez eighth (12-10) and
Nora Waddell ninth (12-9 ½) in the pole vault heading into the WIAC Championships.
Maya Evans is ranked sixth (19-2 ½) and Scott ninth (18-10 ¾) in the long jump while
Emily Blaskowski is seventh (38-7 ½) in the triple jump.
The Eagles' Vander Sanden sits fifth (46-10) in the shot put with
Ella Puls seventh (58-5 ¾) in the weight throw.
Nickolas Davis is in his ninth year as UWL's head coach, leading the Eagles to a sweep of the 2025 WIAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He has led UWL to six (2018, 2020, 2022-25) WIAC Indoor titles and seven (2018-19, 2021-25) Outdoor championships. The Eagles finished third at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Championships, earning 33 All-America accolades. UWL was named the 2025 WIAC Indoor and Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year.
The NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled for March 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama.
UWL returns to action Friday, March 6 at the Wartburg College (Iowa) Final Qualifier.
