Eagles Cut 15 Strokes Off Of Round One Team Score To Finish Ninth

Madison, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse golf team cut 15 strokes off their round one score to move up two spots and finish ninth overall at the UW-Whitewater Fall Invitational. 
 
THE BASICS
Results: UWL finished ninth overall (347, 332 - 679) as Pomona-Pitzer University (Calif.) won the invitational with a team score of 585 (295, 290). In second place was UW-Stout (312, 323 - 635) while Illinois Wesleyan University finished in third place (325, 322 - 647). Rounding out the top five was Aurora Univeristy (Ill.) in fourth (323, 329 - 652) and the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in fifth place (324, 336 - 660).

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Ann Zhao of Pomona-Pitzer University (Calif.) won the individual title with a 1-under 143 (72-71). 
  • Allie McBryde was the top finisher for the Eagles as she finished tied for 24th with a 165 (85, 80).
  • Next for the Eagles was Haley Thoeny who finished tied for 29th as she shot a 168 (83, 85).
  • After shooting a 91 on Sunday, Allison Balduzzi cut 11 strokes (80) to shoot a two round score of 171 to finish tied for 38th.
  • Claire Kelbel was able shoot five strokes better in round two as she finished with a 179 (92, 87) to finish tied for 71. 
  • After shooting an 88 in round one, Kiya Bronston shot a 92 in round two finish 74th with a tournament 180. 
  • Lauren Ambrookian was the lone Eagle playing as individual as she tournament total of 185 (89, 96) to finish tied for 8th. 
Up Next
  • The Eagles will play their final tournament of the fall portion of their schedule this weekend as they compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (presented by Culvers) Friday, October 3rd through Sunday October 5th.  Round one of the championships will start at noon while rounds two and three are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
