Larsen, Tanberg and Schleeper Named to All-WIAC Golf Team

Madison, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse graduate student Molly Larsen of Tomah (H.S.), senior Maija Tanberg of Forest Lake, Minn. (H.S.) and junior Andrea Schleeper of Fitchburg (Verona) have been named to the 2023 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Golf Team, the league office announced Monday. Larsen was voted to the All-WIAC First Team while Tanberg and Schleeper were both selected to the All-WIAC Second Team. 

It is the third all-conference honor for Larsen and Schleeper and second for Tanberg. Larsen was voted to the 2022 All-WIAC First Team and 2021 second team while Schleeper was named to the 2021 and 2022 second team. Tanberg was selected to the 2022 All-WIAC Second Team. 

A total of five players were selected to the All-WIAC First Team and five to the All-WIAC Second Team.  The team was determined by using a combination of the WIAC Championship results from the fall (50 percent) and the last Golfstat Adjusted Scoring Average rankings (50 percent) prior to the NCAA Championship. A player must have completed a minimum of eight rounds in order to be considered for the all-conference team.

Larsen averaged 81.5 per round while playing in 13 rounds during the fall. She was second at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational, third at UW-Eau Claire, fourth at the WIAC Championships and tied for fifth in the UW-River Falls Invitational. 

Tanberg averaged 81.5 in 11 rounds while also playing in the fall season. She tied for third at the UWL Invitational and fifth at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational and WIAC Championships. Tanberg also tied for ninth in the UW-Eau Claire Invitational.

Schleeper played in 16 rounds in 2022-23, averaging 82.4. She recorded nine top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments, including capturing medalist honors at the UWL Fall Invitational. She also tied for first in the Viterbo (Wis.) Spring Invitational. Schleeper was second at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational and UWL Spring Invitational while placing third at the UW-Stout Spring Invitational. She tied for sixth at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational, seventh at the WIAC Championships, tied for eighth at the Viterbo (Wis.) Fall Invitational and tied for ninth at the UW-River Falls Invitational. 

UWL tied for first at the 2022 WIAC Championships under head coach David Taebel. The Eagles tied for the league title with UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks claimed the league's championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships after winning a one-hole playoff over UWL by one stroke. Taebel was named the 2022 WIAC Kwik Trip Coach of the Year.

The Eagles also placed second at the 2021 WIAC Fall and Spring Championships. Seven golfers finished in the top-22for UWL at the 2022 league championships. Along with Larsen finishing fifth, Schleeper tied for seventh and Tanberg 13th, the Eagles' Sophie Denure tied for 18th while Erin Rosencrantz placed 23rd and Abby DeMoe 25th.
 
The Eagles captured seven team tournaments this year, winning the UW-Eau Claire, UWL, Viterbo (Wis.) and UW-Stevens Point Invitationals in the fall.  UWL won the UW-Oshkosh Match Play in the spring season as well as the Viterbo (Wis.) and UWL Invitationals.
