Madison, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team hosts Hamline University (Minn.) in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (presented by Culver's) First Round on Wednesday, April 29. The Eagles, 12-4 on the season, are the tournament's third-seed while the Pipers, 10-5 on the year, are the sixth-seed.
Game time is 5 p.m. at UWL's Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
In the other first round contest, fourth-seeded UW-Eau Claire (7-5) hosts fifth-seeded The College of Saint Benedict, Minn. (6-6) on April 29.
The winner of UWL/Hamline (Minn.) advances to play at second-seeded UW-River Falls (14-3) in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday, May 1. Top-seeded Colorado College (13-3) travels to the winner of the UW-Eau Claire/Saint Benedict (Minn.) game in the other semifinal on May 1.
The championship game is Sunday, May 3 with the winner earning the WIAC's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships.
UWL lost (17-6) to Colorado College in the 2025 conference tournament semifinals and to Saint Benedict, Minn. (15-13) in the third-place game. The Eagles advanced to the WIAC Championship game in its inaugural year in 2024. UWL defeated UW-River Falls (16-8) in the semifinals before falling (16-5) to Colorado College in the title game.
UWL and Hamline (Minn.) will be meeting for the second straight game after the Eagles earned a 17-7 win over the Pipers in St. Paul, Minnesota in the regular season finale for both teams on April 25.
Megan Maloney and
Ava Schiltz each scored five goals in the win for UWL with
Evie Brilz finishing with four. Schiltz and
Emily Wrobbel had two assists each while
Stefania Rossi earned the win, recording five saves.
Ema Rehder led Hamline (Minn.) with two goals. Lola Brouwer registered 12 saves.
UWL, led by second-year head coach
Nick Anagnostis, has tied its single-season school record with 12 victories this season. The Eagles also won 12 games in 2023 (12-5) and 2024 (12-6). UWL is 6-2 at home and 6-2 on the road this year.
Schiltz leads the Eagles in goals (49), assists (16), points (65) and shots (100) this season while Maloney is second in goals (48), assists (15), points (63) and shots (98). Wrobbel is tied with Maloney for second in assists (15).
Tori Katzenmeyer is third in goals (29) and points (38) while Brilz is fourth in goals (28) and points (33). Rossi is 10-3 on the year with a 9.19 goals against average and .451 save percentage.
Hamline (Minn.) is 5-3 at home and 5-2 on the road this year.
Emma Collins leads the Pipers in points (76) while ranking second in goals (45) and assists (31). Kayli Starkey leads in assists (47) and is second in points (74) and fourth in goals (27). Lauren Moorhouse is first in goals (48) and third in points (59). Brouwer is 5-4 in goal, allowing 11.91 goals per game and .464 save percentage.
