Box Score Northfield, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team dropped its first game of the season with a 3-2 loss at Carleton College (Minn.) Thursday afternoon at Bell Field. The Eagles, ranked 14th on this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Top-25 Poll, fall to 8-1 on the year. The Knights improve to 5-1-2.
UWL is ranked first and Carleton (Minn.) fourth in the United Soccer Coaches Region IX.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead as Ashlyn Haigh scored at 12:47 off Claire Burbery's assist. The Eagles tied the contest at 1-1 at 24:29 on
Amaya Thesing goal.
Jillian Sawadski recorded the assist. The game remained tied until Carleton's (Minn.) Kathryn Kresse made it 2-1 at 36:58.
Both teams had eight shots in the first half while UWL held the advantage in the corner kicks, 6-2.
Carleton (Minn.) extended its lead to 3-1 at 64:06 on Lily Shure's goal. UWL cut the deficit to 3-2 at 77:14 on a
Aubree Caya goal. The Eagles had three shots in the final 7:12 of the game, including a pair on goal saved by the Knights' Avery Trapp.
UWL finished with 14 shots, including eight on goal. Thesing, Caya,
Catherine Arnold and
Ella Opie each had two shots in the game. The Eagles totaled six corner kicks.
Summer Nicolai suffered the loss, finishing with six saves.
Carleton (Minn.) totaled 17 shots with nine on goal. Lauren Caldwell and Lola Feurer led the Knights with three shots. The team had three corner kicks.
Trapp earned the victory, registering six saves.
