Indianapolis, Ind. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Head Soccer Coach Jason Murphy has been appointed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and III Men's and Women's Soccer Rules Committee. Murphy will officially begin his term on September 1, 2026 and serve through August, 2029.

The appointment places Murphy among a group of nine members, including four representing NCAA Division II and four representing NCAA Division III. Within each division, one-half of the members shall represent women's soccer interests and one-half represent men's soccer interests. An additional member shall be elected as the secretary-rules editor.

The purpose of the NCAA Divisions II and III Men's and Women's Soccer Rules Committee is to oversee, review, and recommend changes to the playing rules for soccer in Division II and III.

"I'm excited about this honor and excited to represent UWL and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference," said Murphy. "I'm looking forward to working with the other committee members from Division II and III to make the best possible championship experience for the student-athletes, coaches and staffs."

Murphy starts his 13th season as UWL's head coach in 2026. The third head coach in school history, Murphy is 173-46-26 (.759) overall and 62-8-8 (.846) in WIAC play. His 173 overall victories are tied for the school record with Sara Burton, who finished 173-149-28 (.534) from 1994-2013.

He has guided the Eagles to eight appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament, including three (2017, 2021, 2023) trips to the national quarterfinals. UWL advanced to the third round in 2018 and 2022 and made its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships in 2015. The Eagles earned an automatic bid to the national tournament in 2024 and 2025, advancing to the second round in 2025. 

UWL has won seven (2015, 2017-18, 2022-25) WIAC regular season titles and six (2017-18, 2022-25) league tournament championships.

Sixty-eight All-WIAC honors have been earned under Murphy. UWL has earned 11 All-America and 37 All-Region accolades as well as 13 Academic All-America selections and 31 Academic All-Region awards.

Murphy came to UWL after serving as head women's soccer coach and director of athletics at Marian University (Wis.). He has a 214-79-28 (.710) overall collegiate coaching record in 15 seasons.

UWL opens its 2026 season Tuesday, September 1 at Carroll University (Wis.).
