Bangor, Maine - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory at Husson University (Maine) Sunday at John P. Boucher Field. The Eagles of Husson (Maine) drop to 1-1.
It is the third straight shutout to start the season for UWL.
In the first-ever meeting the teams, the game was scoreless at halftime. UWL totaled five shots and three corner kicks in the first half while Husson (Maine) had two shots and one corner kick.
The Eagles scored the first goal of the game at 51:39 as
Aubree Caya scored on a penalty kick at 51:39.
UWL extended its lead to 2-0 at 66:16 with
Catherine Arnold scoring.
UWL finished with 10 shots, including three on goal. Arnold had two shots, both coming on goal, while Caya also had two shots with one on goal. Six other players recorded a shot.
The Eagles had five corner kicks.
Husson (Maine) totaled four shots with one on goal. Kaitlyn Jones had the Eagles' lone shot on goal while Paige Dunn led Husson (Maine) with two shots. The Eagles had one corner kick.
Summer Nicolai earned the shutout win for UWL, recording one save.
Gabriella Smith suffered the loss for Husson (Maine), finishing with one save.
UWL, receiving votes on the United Soccer Coaches/Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches (IWSOC) Top 25 Preseason Poll, has won its first three games for the fifth consecutive season. The Eagles won their first eight games in 2025.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, September 9 hosting Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) in the Eagles' home opener. Start time is set for 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
