St. Peter, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis completed action Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional and Midwest Invite at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). No team scores were recorded.
In singles play at the ITA Midwest Regional, the Eagles'
Tasha Bailey and
Caitlyn Stadter lost in the quarterfinals. Bailey went 3-1 in the tournament. After a first round bye, she defeated Ashley Adkisson of UW-Whitewater (2-6, 6-4, 14-12) in the second round. Bailey defeated Mary Breitbach of Loras College, Iowa (6-0, 6-0) in the next round and advanced with a victory over Michaella Sullivan of Bethel University, Minn. (3-6, 7-5, 10-5) in the quarterfinals. She lost to Karina Elvestrom of Gustavus Adolphus, Minn. (6-0, 6-0) in the semifinals.Â
Caitlyn Stadter
Stadter also went 3-1 after a first round bye. She opened with a win over Clara Hills of Lawrence University, Wis. (6-0, 6-2) followed by a victory over third-seeded Pari Chaven of Grinnell College, Iowa (6-1, 1-6, 10-5). Stadter defeated Julia Moreno of Luther College, Iowa) in the quarterfinals (6-3, 6-1) before dropping her quarterfinal match to Xingchen Liu of Carthage College, Wis. (6-3, 6-2).
UWL's
Hannah Cady and
Shelby Roth both went 2-1 in singles at the ITA Regional while
Lily Jorgenson and
Maia Samuelson finished 1-1.
Izabelle Brinkman and
Lauren Lindow each dropped their only match of the tournament.
The Eagles had three teams compete in the ITA Midwest Regional doubles tournament. Jorgenson/Stadter finished 3-1 while Bailey/Roth and Cady/Samuelson both went 2-1.
Jorgenson/Stadter advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to top-seeded Karina Elvestrom/Kaya De Bruijn of Gustavus Adolphus, Minn. (8-3).
In the Midwest Invite, UWL's
Morgan Perkins and
Emma Kappel each won a singles title with 4-0 records. At the No. 5 Draw, Perkins opened with a victory over Lindsay Leuzinger of UW-Stout (8-3) before a win over Kaitlyn Rahne of The College of Saint Benedict, Minn. (8-3). She defeated Abby Struble of Luther, Iowa in the semifinals (8-7, 4) and Chloe Reyes of Hamline University, Minn. in the championship match (8-4).
Kappel started the tournament with a win over Addie Carlson of Bethel, Minn. (8-2) before a second round victory over Julia Nill of UW-Whitewater (8-1). She beat Evie Bryson of Gustavus Adolphus, Minn. in the semifinals (8-4) and Allyson Yahn of Saint Benedict, Minn. in the title match (8-1).
UWL's
Zoe Klicker went 1-1 in Draw No. 8 of the tournament while
Emma Herzog finished 1-1 in Draw No. 10.Â
Morgan Perkins
In doubles at the Midwest Invite, Lindow/Klicker placed second in Draw No. 1 with a 3-1 record. The duo opened with a victory (6-0) over Evie Vacek/Madelana Priest of Lawrence, Wis. before a win (6-2) over Aubrey Wittwer/Ana Ricaurte of UW-Eau Claire. Lindow/Klicker defeated Lila Coval/Evelyn Smiley of St. Olaf, Minn. in the semifinals (6-3) before dropping the title match to Rafaela Tavares/Ale Villanueva of Luther, Iowa (6-1).
Brinkman/Perkins and Herzog/Kappel both went 2-1 in Draw No. 2 while advancing to the semifinals.
UWL returns to action Friday, October 3 hosting UW-River Falls at 3 p.m.
