Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team opened its 2025-26 season with a second-place finish at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational Saturday. The Eagles totaled 36.0 team points while Grinnell College (Iowa) took the team title with 40.0 points.
UW-Whitewater was third (35.0), Luther College (Iowa) fourth (29.0), Carthage College (Wis.) fifth (28.0) and UW-Eau Claire sixth (20.0). Augustana College (Ill.) and UW-Oshkosh tied for seventh (17.0).

Shelby Roth won the No. 1 doubles flight on Saturday with a 3-0 record. The duo opened with a 6-0 victory over Olivia Herzog/Marin Catencamp of UW-Eau Claire followed by a 6-3 win over Paige Sargent/Logan Tom of Grinnell (Iowa) in the semifinals. Bailey/Roth won the flight with a 6-4 victory over Molly Asfeld/Crystina Lee of UW-Whitewater.

Hannah Cady placed second at No. 2 doubles. The duo defeated (6-1) Olivia Pethan/Courtney Carpenter of UW-Oshkosh in their first match. Samuelson/Cady defeated (6-0) Stella Platt/Kiera Schmid of UW-Eau Claire in the semifinals before dropping the title match (4-6) to Nichole Henning/Anika Sheth of Grinnell (Iowa).

Emma Kappel went 2-1 at No. 3 doubles. After dropping their opening match, the duo defeated Sabina Skudmova/Valentina Huesca of Carthage (Wis.) in the consolation semifinals (6-1) and defeated Ana Paula Ricaurte/Morgan Briggman of UW-Eau Claire in the consolation finals (6-1).
In singles play Saturday,
Lauren Lindow placed second in the No. 2 flight. She defeated Cate Gerl of UW-Oshkosh in the first round (6-0, 6-0) and Alejandra Villanueva-Rodriguez of Luther (Iowa) in the semifinals (7-5, 6-0). Lindow dropped the title match (5-7, 1-6) to Abigail Weaver of UW-Whitewater.
Caitlyn Stadter finished 2-1 at No. 1 singles. After an opening round loss, she defeated Brianna Owens of UW-Oshkosh (8-1) and Abby Ostermann of Luther, Iowa (8-3).
Izabelle Brinkman went 1-2 at No. 3 singles with a first round victory (6-0, 6-0) over Vianna Duo.
UWL returns to action Sunday, September 7 at MSOE (Wis.) at 12:30 p.m.
