Nine Earn All-WIAC Honors; Caya, Nicolai and Wawrzyn Earn Individual Awards

Madison, Wis. - Eight members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team have been selected to the 2025 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team in a vote by the league coaches.Action Shot

Junior forwards Aubree Caya of Oregon (H.S.) and Jillian Sawadski of Mount Prospect, Ill. (Prospect), junior midfielder Sera Speltz of Winona, Minn. (Cotter), junior defender Allison Steeno of Appleton (Kimberly), sophomore goalkeeper Summer Nicolai of Onalaska (H.S.), freshman midfielder Ella Opie of Pewaukee (H.S.) and freshman defender Monica Wawrzyn of Delafield (Kettle Moraine) were all selected to the All-WIAC First Team. It the second career all-conference honor for Sawadski after being named to the 2024 All-WIAC First Team. 
 
Sophomore midfielder Amaya Thesing of Onalaska (H.S.) was named to the 2025 All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team. Senior goalkeeper Robin Blair of Great Falls, Mont. (C.M. Russell) was named to the All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team. 
 
It marks the 11th straight year and 12th time in the last 14 seasons UWL has had at least four players named to the All-WIAC Team.

Caya was voted this year's WIAC Offensive Player of the Year, Nicolai the WIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and Wawrzyn the WIAC Newcomer of the Year.
 
It is the fifth straight season UWL has earned the WIAC Offensive Player of the Year Award with Caya garnering the award this season. Sophie Amundson (2021), Ainsley Allan (2022) and Ellie Arndt (2023-24) also earned the honor. Margaret Harrings earned the award twice (2018-19).

Setting a single-season school record with 21 goals in 2025, Caya broke the record of 19 by Jennifer Tischaefer in 1997 and 1999. Caya leads the WIAC in goals (21), points (48), shots (75) and shots on goal (48) while being tied for first in game-winning goals (4). Her six assists are tied for 11th in the conference. Caya's 48 points are second in school history behind Tischaefer's 50 points in 1997. 

Nicolai is the second player in school history to be named the WIAC Goalkeeper of the Year, joining Sophia Anger (2023). Nicolai leads the conference in goals against average (0.64) while recording 6.5 shutouts. She is 14-2-1 on the season, registering 43 saves. 

The second player in UWL history to be voted the WIAC Newcomer of the Year, Wawrzyn has played in all 19 games this season while ranking second for UWL in assists (9). She has one game-winning goal while ranking tied for third in the WIAC in assists. Wawrzyn has helped the Eagles' defense record 12 shutouts this year, allowing 11 goals in 19 games. Sydney Halstead (2019) was also named the league's newcomer of the year. 
 
Allison Steeno

Sawadski leads UWL in assists (10) and is tied for second in points (30) while being second in shots on goal (27), third in goals (10) and tied for third in shots (42). She has three game-winning goals while appearing in all 19 contests. In the WIAC, Sawadski is tied for first in the league in assists, tied for second points and tied for third in goals and game-winning goals. She is fourth in shots on goal.
 
Playing in 18 games in 2025, Speltz currently ranks second for UWL in goals (12), tied for second in points (30) and tied for third in shots (42) and shots on goal (20). She has a pair of game-winning goals. Speltz is second in the WIAC in goals, tied for second in points, tied for eighth in assists and game-winning goals, ninth in shots and tied for 10th in shots on goal.
Ella Opie
 

Steeno has played in all 19 games this season, helping UWL's defense lead the conference in goals against average (0.58) and shutouts (12). 
 
Opie is third for UWL in assists (8), tied for third in shots on goal (20), fourth in points (20) and tied for fifth in goals (6) while appearing in all 19 games. She has one game-winning goal and is tied for fifth in the conference in assists, tied for ninth in goals and tied for 10th in shots on goal.
 
Ranking fourth on the team in goals (9) and fifth in points (19), Thesing has played in 15 games in 2025. She has recorded 34 shots with 19 coming on goal with one game-winning goal. Thesing is fifth in the WIAC in goals, eighth in points and 10th in shots.
 
Amaya Thesing

Blair has played in 10 games, recording a 0.69 goals against average. The WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team is chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It includes one member from each school.
 
UWL is 16-2-1 overall and finished 6-0-1 in the WIAC in 2025, securing its eighth (1996, 2015, 2017-18, 2022-25) regular season league title in school history. It is the Eagles' fourth straight title under 12th-year head coach Jason Murphy.
 
UWL hosts UW-Stevens Point on Friday, November 7 in a WIAC Tournament Semifinal (presented by Culver's). Game time is 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
