La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team is set to host UW-Stevens Point on Friday, November 7 in the semifinals of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (Presented by Culver's). Game time is 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The Eagles enter the tournament as the one-seed while the Pointers are the fourth-seed. UWL enters the game at 16-2-1 overall while UW-Stevens Point is 9-4-8.
UWL is 22-23-3 all-time in the WIAC Championships while UW-Stevens Point is 49-10-3. The Eagles are making their 31st all-time appearance in the WIAC Championships while the Pointers are making their 29th appearance. UWL has won six tournament titles (1996, 2017-18, 2022-24) while UW-Stevens Point has captured 15 (1992-95, 1997-2004, 2008-10) championships.
UWL is seeking its 11th trip to the tournament championship game.
UW-Stevens Point leads UWL, 6-4-2, in the WIAC Tournament. The Eagles have won the last three tournament meetings (all shutouts) with the Pointers, including 5-0 in the 2023 semifinals.
The Eagles finished 6-0-1 in the WIAC this season and are 9-0-1 overall at home

UWL has won the last seven meetings with UW-Stevens Point, including a 4-1 victory October 4 in Stevens Point.
Jillian Sawadski gave UWL a 1-0 lead at 24:50 before UW-Stevens Point tied the game on Cass Klitzke's goal at 47:08. The Eagles regained the lead at 47:26 on Sawadski's second goal of the game and she added a third goal at 50:58 to extend the lead to 3-1.
Riley Veenendaal scored at 62:57 to finish the scoring.
Summer Nicolai earned the win in goal, registering three saves in the game.
Aubree Caya leads UWL with 21 goals this year, a single-season school record. She broke
Jennifer Tischaefer's record of 19 set in 1997 and 1999. Caya also has a team-high 48 points. The 48 points are second in single-season school history behind Tischaefer's 50 points in 1997.
Sawadski leads the team in assists (10) while ranking third in goals (10) and tied for second in points (30).
Sera Speltz is second in goals (12) and tied for third in points (30). Eight different players have scored at least five goals while 21 have recorded a point.
Nicolai has recorded a 0.64 goals against average. UWL has 12 shutouts this year.
UWL won its eighth (1996, 2015, 2017-18, 2022-25) regular season league title in school history this year, including fourth straight, under head coach
Jason Murphy.
UWL, 8-1-1 in its last 10 games, is ranked third in Region IX in the United Soccer Coaches. The Eagles extended their WIAC unbeaten streak to 28 (26-0-2) with a 3-0 victory over UW-Whitewater on November 1.
UW-Stevens Point, 5-2-3, on the road this season, finished 2-1-4 in the WIAC this season. The Pointers advanced to this year's tournament semifinals with a 2-1 double overtime victory over UW-Whitewater in Wednesday's first round in Stevens Point. The Warhawks took a 1-0 lead at 63:53 on a Brooklynn Carlson goal before the Pointers tied the game at 89:06 on Sophia Ryan's goal on assists from Kayce Wadas and Christa Borchardt. UW-Stevens Point earned the win at 102:49 on Grace Peters' goal off a Wadas' corner kick. Ainsley Katte earned the win, recording two saves.
Klitzke leads the team in goals (10) and is tied for the team lead in points (22) with Borchardt, who leads UW-Stevens Point in assists (10). Katte has compiled a 0.83 goals against average.
The winner of Friday's game advances to the WIAC Championship on Sunday, November 9. In the other semifinal Friday, second-seeded UW-Platteville hosts three-seeded UW-River Falls. The highest remaining seed will host the championship game. The winner of the championship earns the conference's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships.
