Eight Earn All-WIAC Honors; Furlano, Hendrick and Schiltz Named to First Team

Eight members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team have been named to the 2024 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team, the league office announced Wednesday. Senior goalkeeper Abi Furlano of Blaine, Minn. (Spring Lake Park), junior defender Kaley Hendrick of Holland, Mich. (West Ottawa) and sophomore midfielder Ava Schiltz of Prior Lake, Minn. (H.S.) have earned All-WIAC First Team honors.
 
Senior midfielder Grace Willmott of Rosemount, Minn. (H.S.) and junior attacker Megan Feeney of Libertyville, Ill. (H.S.) earned All-WIAC Second Team honors while sophomore attacker Megan Maloney of Cottage Grove, Minn. (Park), sophomore defenders Anna Jenson of Hartland (Arrowhead) and Lydia Spencer of Minneapolis, Minn. (St. Paul Central) earned All-WIAC Honorable Mention accolades. 
 
It is the first all-conference team in league history. The WIAC added lacrosse as a varsity sport with full-time members UWL, UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout, along with affiliate members Colorado College and Southwestern University (Texas).

Colorado College is in its 30th season in lacrosse while Southwestern (Minn.) played its 11th year. UW-River Falls is in his sixth season while UWL is in his fifth year. UW-Eau Claire is playing its fourth year as a varsity sport while UW-Stout completed its second and UW-Stevens Point its first in 2023-24. 
 
Furlano played in 17 games this season with 16 starts while finishing with a 10-5 record in goal. She recorded a 11.58 goals against average and .501 save percentage while finishing with 10.1 saves per game. Furlano leads the WIAC in save percentage while ranking second in saves per game and fifth in goals against average. She had at least 10 saves in 10 games this year, including a season-high 21 versus UW-River Falls. Furlano recorded 17 saves at Illinois Wesleyan University.
 
Starting all 17 games she played in this season, Hendrick scored goals versus Carthage College (Wis.) and University of Northwestern (Minn.). She had a season-high five ground balls in two games. Hendrick helped the defense allow 10.6 goals per game and .421 free position shot percentage. 
 
Schiltz started all 18 games, leading UWL in goals (64), points (74), shots (115), shots on goal (96), man-up goals (9) and free position goals (20). She was second for the Eagles in draw controls (57) and tied for second in caused turnovers (17). Schiltz scored a goal in 17 games with a season-high six versus Augsburg University (Minn.), Lake Forest College (Ill.), Illinois Wesleyan and UW-Stevens Point. Finishing with at least seven shots in 11 games, Schiltz had a season-high three assists in three different games. She ranks third in the WIAC in goals per game (3.65), fourth in points (4.24) and shots (6.59) per game and 10th in draw controls per game (3.29).
 
Earning All-WIAC Second Team honors, Willmott led UWL in draw controls (72) this year while ranking fourth in the league in draw controls per game (4.31). She was second for the Eagles in shots (97) and man-up goals (6) while finishing third in goals (36) and assists (14). Willmott is seventh in the WIAC in shots per game (6.06). She scored a season-high four goals against The College of Saint Benedict (Minn.), UW-Stout, UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire. Recording a season-high 11 shots and three assists versus UW-River Falls, Willmott had five ground balls against Saint Benedict (Minn.) and Carroll University (Wis.). She recorded a season-high nine draw controls and three caused turnovers.
 
Feeney started 17 games in 2024. She finished second for UWL in goals (49), points (54) and shots on goal (60) while tied for third in shots (79) and man-up goals (3). Feeney led the team with three short-handed goals. She had a season-high six goals on 10 shots (nine on goal) versus UW-River Falls. Registering a goal in 14 games, Feeney finished with five goals versus Augsburg (Minn.), Lake Forest (Ill.), Illinois Wesleyan and UW-River Falls. She had a season-high five ground balls with three draw controls and three caused turnovers versus Illinois Wesleyan.  She is fifth in the WIAC in goals per game (3.00).
 
Appearing in all 18 games with 17 starts, Maloney finished second for UWL in assists (18) and free-position goals (7) while being third in points (53) and draw controls (31). She was fourth in goals (35) and tied for third in man-up goals (3). Maloney recorded at least one point in all 18 games, finishing with a season-high four goals, six points, 10 shots and seven shots on goal against Aurora University (Ill.). She scored at least two goals in 12 different contests, including four versus Carthage (Wis.). Maloney had a season-high three assists vs. Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Jenson started 17 games, finishing with 24 ground balls with a season-high four versus UW-Stevens Point. She was also named to the 2024 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team. The WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team is chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It includes one member from each school.
 
Action ShotA starter in all 18 games, Spencer was third for UWL in ground balls (34) with a season-high seven against Edgewood College (Wis.). She also recorded an assist versus the Eagles. Spencer scored a goal versus UW-Stevens Point while recording a season-high four draw controls versus Illinois Wesleyan.

Jenson and Spencer helped lead the Eagles' defense to allow eight goals or fewer in eight games this season. UWL allowed a season-low two goals in a 17-2 victory over UW-Stout. Four teams scored four goals this year.   
 
UWL finished 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the WIAC this season under head coach Alexandra Robinson. The Eagles finished third in the league standings while advancing to the inaugural conference tournament championship game. UWL advanced to the title game after a semifinal victory over UW-River Falls.
 
The Eagles' 12 victories tied the single-season school record set last year.

Robinson served as UWL's assistant coach in 2022-23. She came to UWL after earning her bachelor's and master's degrees from Trine University (Ind.).  Robinson earned her bachelor's in sports and recreation in 2021 with minors in sports psychology and exercise science.  She earned her master's degree in organizational leadership in May 2022.  Serving as team captain for the lacrosse team at Trine (Ind.), Robinson was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  She played defense for the Thunder for four seasons
