Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell, 15-13, to The College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Third-Place Game (presented by Culver's) Saturday afternoon in UW-Eau Claire's Sonnentag Fieldhouse.
The Eagles finish their season at 10-7 while the Bennies improve to 11-6.
CSB (Minn.) took a 1-0 lead with 13:26 remaining in the first quarter on Lizzie Schrubbe's assist. UWL scored the next two goals to take the lead as
Angie Olla scored off
Ava Schiltz' assist with 12:58 left and
Megan Feeney gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead on a free position shot with 12:30 remaining.
Megan Maloney scored three goals Saturday.
The Bennies regained the lead with a pair of goals. Ava Mosley and Izzy Bohlman each scored to take a 4-3 lead.
The Eagles tallied the game's next three goals.
Evie Brilz' goal with 4:10 left tied the game at 4-4 on
Tori Katzenmeyer's assist. Maloney's goal off a Schiltz assist with 3:31 remaining gave UWL a 5-4 lead and Olla's second goal of the with 1:21 left made it 6-4.
Schrubbe scored with 13:38 remaining in the second quarter cut the deficit to 6-5 and Sami Hackley's goal with 10:13 left tied the game.
UWL scored three of the final four goals of the second quarter to take a 9-7 lead. Feeney's goal on
Emily Wrobbel's assist gave UWL a 7-6 advantage. After Ella Steinke scored for CSB (Minn.) with 8:09 left tied the game at 7-7, Maloney gave the Eagles an 8-7 lead and Katzenmeyer's goal with 3:02 remaining made it 9-7 at halftime.
Olla's goal to start the third quarter gave UWL a 10-7 lead. Mosley's goal for CSB (Minn.) cut it to 10-8, but Maloney responded with a goal to give the Eagles an 11-8 lead. Mosley's second goal of the quarter made it 11-9 before Feeney finished the scoring in the quarter for UWL to extend the lead to 12-9. Katzenmeyer recorded the assist.
The Bennies outscored the Eagles, 6-1, in the fourth quarter. Mosley scored with 13:26 left to cut the lead to 12-10. Brilz' goal with 12:38 remaining gave UWL a 13-10 lead, but CSB (Minn.) scored the final five goals. Merrill Delich's goal off a Mosley assist with 11:59 left cut it to 13-11. Hackley's goal with 10:16 remaining on Kamryn Peterson's assist made it 13-12. Bohlman's tied the game with 8:08 left and Delich scored the eventual game-winning goal with 7:01 remaining. Emma Nelson finished the scoring with 1:09 left.
UWL had 27 shots in the game. Olla, Feeney and Maloney each scored three goals for the Eagles while Brilz scored twice. Wrobbel had a team-high five ground balls while Olla recording a team-leading seven draw controls.
Stefania Rossi suffered the loss, registering eight saves.
CSB (Minn.) totaled 33 shots with Mosley scoring four goals and Hackley three. Bohlmann and Delich each had two goals. Chloe Lewis earned the win, recording 12 saves.
