Schroeder Named WIAC Track Performer of the Meet; Coaching Staff Honored

Madison, Wis. - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners following the completion of the 2024 men's indoor track and field championships. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse junior Luke Schroeder of Green Bay (Ashwaubenonhas been voted the WIAC Track Performer of the Meet. Head Coach Josh Buchholtz and the Eagles coaching staff was named the WIAC Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year.

  • Schroeder is one of four UWL student-athletes to earn the honor, joining Matt Pagel (2004), Ross Denman (2015), and Sam Blaskowski (2023).
  • He picks up the honor after winning both the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter run at the WIAC Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 24. 
  • Schroeder defended his 2023 WIAC Indoor 60-meter hurdles title by running a time of 7.91 in the finals. 
  • The title in the 200-meter run was Schroeder's first WIAC title in the event as he finished in a time of 21.59. 
  • Schroeder has the fastest time so far this season in the NCAA III Honor Roll in the 200-meter when he recorded a time of 21.16 at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational on February 3. 
  • His 7.80 time in the 60-meter hurdles from the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational also ranks a top the NCAA III Honor Roll. 

Josh Buchholtz, 16th Season
  • The Eagles won their 21st WIAC indoor title in the last 22 seasons on February 23-24.
  • UWL has now earned the WIAC Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year Award five times (2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024) since it was re-named in 2019. 
  • The Eagles have won 14 WIAC indoor titles under Buchholtz.
  • Buchholtz has led UWL to five NCAA Division III titles (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2023) including the 2023 national championship. 
  • Bucholtz has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Indoor Coach of the Year three times (2013, 2014, 2023).
  • Buchholtz is joined by Derek Stanly, Doug Geiwitz, Matt Gordy, Nathan Petesch, Garrett Carlson, Mark Guthrie, Niels Anderson, Tommy Knoche, Jim Nelson and Phil Esten on this year's coaching staff.
