- The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Men's Track and Field team completed day one of the 2026 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships (presented by Culver's) which included the Eagles winning an individual championship in the steeplechase.

THE BASICS
  • Team Results: UWL leads the team standings with 92 points while UW-Oshkosh (46 points) is second followed by UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens Point in third (24 points), UW-Eau Claire (18 points) fifth, UW-Whitewater (17 points) sixth, UW-Stout (12 points) seventh and UW-River Falls eighth (1 point). 
  • Location: Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex, La Crosse, Wis. (hosted by UW-La Crosse)
  • Up next: Day two of the WIAC Outdoor Championships will start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

FIELD EVENTS
  • Javelin - Luke Schroeder was one of three Eagles to finish on the podium in the javelin as he was second overall with a throw of 177-0. In third place was Nate Lawrence with a mark of 170-4 while Anthony Staryszak finished seventh overall (158-6). 
  • Pole Vault – UWL had three Eagles score points in the pole vault led by Josh Brunner who finished second overall with a mark of 16-6 3/4. Finishing right behind Brunner was Connor Boyle in third place with a mark of 16-4 3/4 while Alexander Wagner finished eighth (16-2 3/4). 
  • Long JumpTriton Schmidt and Sebastian Jefferson were the top two Eagle performers in the long jump on Friday. Schmidt finished second overall with a jump of 23-9 while Jefferson was third overall (23-7 1/2). 
  • Hammer Throw -  With a throw of 189-3 in the hammer throw, Logan Powers finished second overall for the Eagles. 
  • Decathlon - After day one of the decathlon, Nolan Seaberg is in second place with 3,683 points while teammate Trent Backeberg is in third place with 3,630.

    TRACK EVENTS 
  • 3,000-meter Steeplechase - UWL had six runners score in the 3,000-meter steeplechase including WIAC Champion Joey Sullivan with a school record time of 8:41.53. Finishing in second place was Jayden Zywicki (8:50.89) while Owen Clark was third (8:51.25). Also scoring for the Eagles was Owen Layton (9:07.65), Chase Altergott (9:09.64) and Charles Vater (9:12.44). 
  • 110-meter Hurdles (Prelims) - Schroeder and Aaron Poelma both qualified for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles. Schroeder's time of 13.32 breaks his own school record and is the fastest time this season in NCAA III. Poelma qualified with a time of 14.44. 
  • 400-meter Run (Prelims) - Four Eagles would qualify in the 400-meter run led by Chase Doornink with the top qualifying time of 47.64. Also qualifying for the Eagles was Devin Williams (47.83), Collin Conzemius (48.37) and Andrew Hackbarth (48.62). 
  • 100-meter Dash (Prelims) - Schroeder, Evan Maurud and Landon Gallun all qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash. Schroeder finished with the top qualifying time (10.41) while Maurud was second (10.53) and Gallun fifth (10.55). 
  • 800-meter Run (Prelims) - Tyler Heiman (1:51.91) and Cael Schoeman (1:52.03) finished with the top two qualifying times in the 800-meter run. 
  • 400-meter Hurdles (Prelims) - UWL will have three runners in the 400-meter hurdle finals on Saturday as Finn Patenaude (53.00), Zach Nyquist (53.83) and Logan Hicks (54.13) all qualified. 
  • 200-meter Dash (Prelims) - Schroeder (21.32), Gallun (21.50) and Caeden Oppold (21.62) all qualified for the finals of the 200-meter dash on Saturday. 
  • 10,000-meter Run - The Eagles had two runners finish in the top seven of the 10,000-meter run led by Isaac Ewing in fifth place with a time of 30:29.13. Finishing seventh overall was Declan Gregg with a time of 30:35.60
