Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team finished third at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Saturday night at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Eagles finished with 722.5 points while UW-Eau Claire won the league title with 877.0. UW-Stevens Point was second (814.5) with UW-Whitewater fourth (467.0) and UW-Oshkosh fifth (235.0).
UWL's
Blake Nelson captured the 100 freestyle (45.24) on Saturday while Nelson,
Jacob Ketterling,
Connor Cleveland and
Will Quackenbush won the 400 freestyle relay (3:03.27). Nelson is the first swimmer to win the 100 freestyle since Quackenbush in 2022.
It was UWL's second straight championship in the 400 freestyle after Nelson, Cleveland,
Nicholas Litterer and Quackenbush won in 2023.
Quackenbush was also fourth (46.20) in the 100 freestyle on Saturday while Cleveland placed 10th (46.58),
Alex Starr 14th (47.78) and
Jackson Plautz 15th (48.14).
Ketterling was second (1:49.68) and
Sean Gillett 11th (1:58.07) in the 200 backstroke.
The Eagles'
Ben Collins placed third (2:04.41),
Jonathan Pella seventh (2:11.92),
Davin Evans eighth (2:18.51) and
Tyler Hartmann ninth (2:09.79) in the 200 breaststroke.
Sebiyam Werdin-Kennicott placed eighth (16:51.69) and Evans 10th (17:01.72) in the 1,650 freestyle.
In the 200 butterfly,
Zach Vinson finished fourth (1:56.49),
Caleb Jondle sixth (1:57.49) and
Jonah Elfers eighth (2:05.91).
UWL returns to action Friday-Saturday, March 1-2 at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Central Diving Regional in Granville, Ohio. The NCAA Division III Championships are set for Wednesday-Saturday, March 20-23 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
