La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team opened its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual season with a 168-130 loss to UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon in the
Richard Pein Natatorium in Mitchell Hall.
The Eagles won six individual titles on Saturday. UWL's
Aanav Patel took the three-meter diving crown (203.55 points) and placed second in the one-meter (199.70).
Ethan Pedersen was third in the one-meter (181.30).Â
Preston Nygaard
Jacob Ketterling and
Preston Nygaard each won two individual swimming events as Ketterling captured the 100 (54.24) and 200 (2:00.23) backstroke. Nygaard won the 200 breaststroke (2:07.11) and 200 I.M. (2:00.68).
Ketterling was also second in the 200 I.M. (2:01.88) while Nygaard placed second in the 100 breaststroke (57.62).
UWL's
Jesse Hammes won the 50 freestyle (21.50) while finishing third in the 100 freestyle (47.91).
Other top-three finishers included
Tyler Hartmann second in the 50 freestyle (21.78) and third in the 100 butterfly (53.86).
Jonah Elfers was second in the 100 butterfly (52.02) with
Caleb Jondle second in the 200 butterfly (2:02.43) and
Nolan Sannito second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:38.09).
Gavin LaBeau was third in the 200 freestyle (1:50.95) and
Owen Acker third in the 200 backstroke (2:02.86).
Both relays placed second with Ketterling, Hartmann, Elfers and Hammes in the 200 medley relay (1:34.86) and Hartmann,
Coby Zander,
Luca Nociti and Hammes in the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.01).
UWL returns to action Saturday, November 8 hosting The College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) and Saint John's University (Minn.) with diving starting at 9 a.m. and swimming at 1:30 p.m.
