Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team remains in third-place after the third day of action at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Friday night at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Eagles have 505.5 team points while UW-Eau Claire leads with 622.0. UW-Stevens Point is second (552.50) with UW-Whitewater fourth (331.0) and UW-Oshkosh fifth (183.0).
UWL's
Jacob Ketterling captured the 100 butterfly (49.07) Friday night while
Blake Nelson,
Will Quackenbush,
Connor Cleveland and
Tyler Hartmann won the 200 freestyle relay (1:22.16). Ketterling is the first swimmer to win the 100 butterfly since Hans Hover in 2019.
The Eagles won their second straight 200 freestyle relay. Nelson,
Jackson Plautz,
Nicholas Litterer and Quackenbush took last year's crown.
Quackenbush finished third (1:42.74), Cleveland seventh (1:44.51) and
Alex Starr 16th (1:48.49) in the 200 freestyle. Along with Ketterling winning the 100 butterfly, the Eagles'
Jonah Elfers finished fourth (50.01), Nelson ninth (51.36),
Sean Gillett 13th (52.65) and
Zach Vinson 15th (53.10).
Caleb Jondle placed fourth (4:11.99) in the 400 I.M. with
Davin Evans eighth (4:16.15) and
Sebiyam Werdin-Kennicott 10th (4:14.74). Hartmann finished fourth (57.69) in the 100 breaststroke while
Ben Collins was fifth (57.98),
Jonathan Pella seventh (58.39) and Plautz 16th (1:03.00).
Jesse Hammes finished seventh (52.51) in the 100 backstroke while Vinson was ninth (53.39), Elfers 10th (53.58) and Gillett 12th (54.04).
The Eagles'
Tony McNiff finished fourth (428.45 points) in the one-meter diving competition with
Evan Zimdars seventh (367.15),
Joey Marchiando eighth (363.60),
Aanav Patel ninth (347.40) and
Luke Zocher 13th (289.00).
Action concludes on Saturday, February 17 with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:45 p.m.
