Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's and men's swimming & diving teams opened competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Wednesday night in the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
UWL's women's team is tied for first with UW-Eau Claire with 74.0 points. UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh are tied for third with 62.0 points while UW-Whitewater is fifth with 56.0.
On the men's side, UWL leads with 119.0 team points. UW-Eau Claire is second with 114.0, UW-Oshkosh third with 102, UW-Whitewater fourth with 75.0 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 67.0.
The Eagles' captured the women's 200 medley relay (1:44.13) on Wednesday with
Jordy Hahlen,
Lauren Steien,
Emily Schoenbrodt and
Libby Cleveland. It marks the fifth consecutive league title for UWL, including third straight for Hahlen and Steien.
UWL placed second (7:44.32) in the 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday with
Autumn Seebach,
Paige Rundahl,
Amelia Olson and Schoenbrodt.
The men's 200 medley of
Jesse Hammes,
Tyler Hartmann,
Jacob Ketterling and
Blake Nelson finished second (1:30.82) in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday while the 800 freestyle relay of
Will Quackenbush,
Connor Cleveland,
Caleb Jondle and Ketterling placed fourth (6:55.50).
The Eagles had three of the top-seven finishers in the three-meter diving, including
Tony McNiff placing second (472.90 points),
Evan Zimdars fifth (411.75) and
Joey Marchiando seventh (349.70).
Aanav Patel was 10th (295.30) and
Luke Zocher 12th (290.55).
