Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team captured the UW-Whitewater Midwest ELITE Invitational Saturday. The Eagles finished with 208.0 team points while Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) was second with 133.0 and Loras College (Iowa) third with 78.0. A total of eight teams competed.
UWL won four individual events on Saturday, including
Emma Lawrence capturing a pair of titles. She won the 60-meter hurdles (8.72) and 200-meter dash (24.97). The Eagles'
Mara Schroeder took the 400-meter dash (58.81) and
Ainsley Hansen the high jump (5-8). Hansen broke her own school record of 5-7 3/4 set earlier this season.
Other top-six finishes on the track included
Amber Johnson second (59.11),
Lilly Halvorson third (59.14),
Melanie Kunze fourth (59.40) and
Izi Knoernschild fifth (59.45) in the 400-meter dash.
Maddy Vantassel finished second (17:27.99),
Julia Anderson third (17:44.52) and
Katelyn Chadwick fourth (17:48.79) in the 5,000-meter run while
Emma Malooly was second (4:59.51) and Kimberly Carviou sixth (5:12.07) in the mile run.
Brooke McDowell placed third (9.04) and
Amber Grosse fifth (9.52) in the 60-meter hurdles while
Lauren Jarrett was third (7.75) and
Emily Dawidowich fourth (7.79) in the 60-meter dash. Dawidowch was also fourth (25.28) and Jarrett fifth (25.40) in the 200-meter dash.
Maddie Hannan placed third (2:12.38) in the 800-meter run.
UWL's 4x400-meter relay of Lawrence, Halvorson, Morgan Jennings and Schroeder was third (3:56.18).
In the field events,
Macie Todd was second (5-5 1/4) and
Olivia Owens fourth (5-3 1/4) in the high jump while
Maddie Hansen finished second (18-5 1/4), Grosse fourth (17-2 3/4) and
Ava Foley fifth (16-10) in the long jump.
Kylah Frederixon placed fourth (37-3 1/4) and
Samantha Barrett fifth (36-11 3/4) in the triple jump.
Abby Meidl was third (11-8) and
Araceli De Leo Lopez fourth (11-2 1/4) in the pole vault.
Holly Wardynski finished fifth (51-9 3/4) in the weight throw.
UWL returns to action Friday, February 17 hosting the Eagle Open at 3 p.m.
