Results
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team completed final day action at the Phil Esten Challenge Friday at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. No team scores were recorded.
The heptathlon was concluded on Friday with UWL having four of the top six finishers, including
Amber Grosse who won the title with a school record 5,190 points. She broke the record of 5,151 points set by Hannah Zenkovich in 2021.
The Eagles'
Madeline Thoreson was fourth (4,661 points) on Friday while
Noelle Hackenmueller placed fifth (4,549) and
Audrey Braun sixth (4,443).
Emma Ridgway was 13th (4,096).
Madeline Thoreson placed fourth in the heptathlon.
The heptathlon concluded with the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run on Friday after the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash were held on Thursday.
In action on Thursday, the Eagles'
Julia Zalewski captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:40.37). Other top six finishers included
Becca Immer second (10:46.06),
Bryn Sato fourth (11:19.42) and
Sami Miller sixth (11:23.89).
UWL had four of the top five finishers in the 800-meter run as
Natasha Tiry placed second (2:15.14),
Kalli Vannieuwenhoven third (2:15.48),
Annika Elliott fourth (2:15.54) and
Kylie Stockton fifth (2:16.24).
Brooklyn Luebke finished third (4:37.29) in the 1,500-meter run.
In the 100-meter hurdles,
Regan Scott was third (14.36) and
Olivia Navin sixth (14.70).
Taylor Molling placed fifth (12.24) in the 100-meter dash while
Macy Reybrock was third (56.67) and
Grace Kern fifth (57.04) in the 400-meter dash.
Lucile Duchac finished sixth (36.47.30) and
Milana Pisto seventh (37:08.47) in the 10,000-meter run.
The 4x400-meter relay of
Sarah Grubbs, Kern,
Jocelyn Thomson and Reybrock finished second (3:48.52).
In Thursday's field events, Scott was second (19-0 1/4) in the long jump with
Ava Foley fourth (18-4) and
Josie Blum fifth (18-4).
Emily Blaskowski finished second (38-1 1/2) in the triple jump with
Jaden Hackel third (37-8 3/4).
Izzy Bender was third (5-5) in the high jump.
The Eagles'
Madison Habberstad finished second (13-2) and
Jackie Bergeron fifth (12-1) in the pole vault. Habberstad broke her own school record of 13-1 3/4 set last season.
Jadyn Roden recorded a pair of top five finishes, placing fourth in the hammer throw (169-3) and fifth in the discus throw (139-4).
Esten served as head coach of the men's cross country program at UWL for 28 years (1970-97). He led the Eagles to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III title in 1996. UWL added national runner-up honors in either the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) or NCAA Division III eight times during Esten's tenure. In all, Esten's squads finished in the national top-10 in 26 consecutive tries and appeared in a national championship in 27 of his 28 cross country seasons. UWL won 20 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles under Esten. He was named the WIAC Men's Cross Country All-Time Coach.
He also served as an assistant track & field coach at UWL for 34 seasons. Esten is a member of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Hall of Fame, UWL Wall of Fame, NAIA Cross Country Hall of Fame, NAIA District 14 Hall of Fame and Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches' Association Hall. He is a 1965 graduate of UWL and former cross country and track athlete.
UWL returns to action Saturday, April 18 in the second day of the Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) Bryan Clay Invitational.
