Reedsburg, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse golf team finished second at the 2023 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (presented by Culvers) Sunday afternoon at Reedsburg Country Club.

What is at stake: UW-Whitewater, WIAC Tournament Team Champion, receives an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships scheduled for May 21-24, 2024 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. The national event will be hosted by Transylvania Universtiy (Ky.).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- As a team, the Eagles shot a 332 in round one, 329 in round two and a 316 in the final round for a tournament total 977 to finish second. UW-Whitewater (334, 310, 315 - 959) won their eighth consecutive WIAC Championship. UW-Stout finished one stroke back of UW-La Crosse with a team total of 978 (324, 337, 317). UW-Platteville (346, 342, 337 - 1025) finished fourth while UW-Stevens Point (350, 352, 344 - 1046) was fifth, UW-Oshkosh (355, 357, 346 - 1058) sixth, UW-Eau Claire (356, 356, 353 - 1065) seventh and UW-River Falls (360, 376, 342 - 1078) eighth.
- Senior Andrea Schleeper led the Eagles as she shot an 80 in each round for a tournament total 240. Schleeper finished fourth individually, as Abbey Flipiak shot a three round total of 225 to earn WIAC medalist honors.
- Allison Balduzzi (82, 83, 80) was next for the Eagles as she finished with a 245 to finish tied for eighth.
- Also finishing in the top ten for the Eagles was Grace Ellison as she shot a 246 (85-85, 76) to finish tenth.
- Nora Cerroni (85, 85, 80 - 250) finished 14th while Sophie Denure (89, 81, 82) shot a 252 to finish tied for 15th.
- Playing as an individual from the Eagles was Haley Thoeny (81, 83, 79 - 243, 7th), Jenna Wiebke (90, 84, 80 - 254, 19th), Allie McBryde (92, 82, 82 - 256, T-20th), Claire Kelbel (84, 91, 81 - 256 T-20th), Erin Rosencrantz (85, 91, 84 - 260, T-26th) and Lauren Ambrookian (88, 92, 87 - 267 T-42nd).
WIAC ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
- With her top-five finish, Schleeper earned her second WIAC First Team All-Conference recognition.
- With her seventh place finish, Thoeny earned WIAC Second Team All-Conference honors while being named Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year.
- Finishing eighth, Balduzzi earns WIAC Second Team All-Conference honors.
- Also earning WIAC Second Team All-Conference honors was Ellison.
- McBryde was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
