La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team opened its 2023 indoor season capturing the Pat Healy Classic Saturday in The Fieldhouse. The Eagles finished 306.5 team points with UW-Stout second with 98.5. Viterbo University (Wis.) placed third (54.0) and Saint Mary's University (Minn.) fourth (10.0).
UWL won eight individual events on Saturday, including four in the field events and four on the track. The Eagles also won the 4x400-meter relay.Â
Sam Blaskowski set a school record in the 60-meter dash.
In Saturday's field events, four Eagles captured crowns.
Logan Larson took the pole vault (15-2 1/4),
William Cady the triple jump (46-1 1/4), Aidan Williams the weight throw (58-10) and
Bryce Sitko the shot put (48-10 3/4).Â
Jonathan Zell placed second (14-8 1/4) in the pole vault with
Ashton Moody tied for third (14-2 1/2) and
Jacob Wodushek finishing fifth (14-2 1/2).
Nick Crary was second (44-11 3/4) and
Brody Kluge third (44-6 3/4) in the triple jump.Â
In the weight throw,
Spencer Prats finished fourth (49-5 3/4),
Douglas Grace fifth (48-8 3/4) and
Logan Powers sixth (48-5 1/2) while in the shot put, Kyler Peters placed third (46-11) and
Ethan Welch fourth (46-0 3/4).Â
Other top-six finishers in the field events on Saturday included
Nathan Andringa placing second (6-4 3/4) in the high jump with
Sam Blaskowski second (22-7 1/4),
Terrance Cottrell-Roberson third (21-11) and
Andrew Hermes sixth (21-8) in the long jump.Â
The Eagles won four individual titles on the track, including Blaskowski taking the 60-meter dash (6.70), Luke Schroeder the 200-meter dash (22.38),
Chase Doornink the 400-meter dash (49.72) and
Ethan Gregg the 3,000-meter run (8:09.94).Â
Blaskowski set a school record in Saturday's 60-meter dash and his time of 6.70, breaking Alex Koenen's record of 6.73 set in 2016.
Spencer Reichart placed second (6.91),
Ryder Smith third (6.93), Cottrell-Roberson fourth (7.02) and
Carter Kummet fifth (7.12) in the 60-meter dash. Along with Schroeder taking the 200-meter dash,
Luke Vance finished second (22.52),
Ryder Smith third (22.67), Ashton Kummet fourth (22.76) and
Carter Kummet fifth (22.78).Â
Payton Flood finished second (49.97),
Addison Hill third (49.98),
Tyler Backes fifth (51.09) and
Caden Pearce sixth (51.13) in the 400-meter dash.
Isaac Wegner was second (8:15.03) and
Elias Ritzke fifth (8:47.74) in the 3,000-meter run.
Other top finishers on the track included
Carson Reilly second (8.30) and
Lukas Johnson fifth (8.48) in the 60-meter hurdles. Aidan Mattha placed second (4:14.64),
Christopher Wolfe fourth (4:15.04),
Michael Madoch fifth (4:16.61) and
Logan Bell sixth (4:18.76) in the mile run while
Parker Heintz finished second (1:57.96),
Adam Loenser third (2:00.23), Wolfe fourth (2:02.20) and Bell fifth (2:02.93) in the 800-meter run.Â
UWL's 4x400-meter relay of Madoch,
Cael Schoemann,
Thomas Blumer and Heintz took first (3:28.84).

Healy, a member of the members of the UWL Wall of Fame, Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Hall of Fame and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Hall of Fame, served as the Eagles' women's track & field coach fro 25 seasons from 1992-2006.  He led UWL to 22 team trophies (top-four finishes) at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor and Outdoor Championships in his career, including sweeping the 2015 national titles. The Eagles finished in the top-10 in 41 of a possible 50 national championship under Healy. He was selected the USTFCCCA National Indoor Coach of the Year four times (1997, 2000, 2001, 2015) and Outdoor Coach of the Year twice (1998, 2015).Â
UWL won 16 WIAC indoor titles under Healy and 18 outdoor crowns.  He was named the WIAC Indoor Coach of the Year 13 times and Outdoor Coach of the Year on 11 occasions. Â
Healy served as UWL's head women's cross country coach from 1991-2001, guiding the Eagles to 13 top-10 finishes at the NCAA III Championships. Â UWLÂ captured four WIAC cross country titles under Healy as he was named the WIAC Coach of the Year each season.
UWL returns to action Friday, January 27 at the Aurora University (Ill.) Grand Prix.Â
