Men’s Track and Field Hosts Ashton May Invitational; Win Four Event Title

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Men's Track and Field opened the outdoor portion of the 2026 schedule on Friday as they hosted the Ashton May Invitational. 


THE BASICS
  • Results: No team scores were compiled. (Results)
  • Location: Veterans Memorial Stadium, La Crosse, Wis.
  • Ashton May Invitational: The meet is named for former assistant women's track & field coach Ashton May, who passed away September 16, 2012 after a traffic accident north of Adams, Minnesota. She completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Eagles in 2011-12. May earned her degree from UWL in 2010 in elementary education and was a math and social studies teacher at Holmen (Wis.) Middle School. A four-year track & field letter winner for the Eagles, she earned 10 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America awards, including second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the 2010 outdoor championships. May was also second in the long jump at the 2010 indoor national championships. 
  • Up next:  The Eagles will return to action on Friday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 when they travel to Platteville, Wis. to compete at the UW-Platteville Invitational. Friday's action will start at 4:30 p.m. while Saturday will begin at 11:00 a.m.

THE RESULTS

   
FIELD EVENTS
  • Pole Vault: UWL would have five of the top seven finishers in the pole vault including event winner Connor Boyle (16-4 3/4). Finishing third was Alexander Wagner (15-11) followed by teammates Gaven Lange in fourth (15-11) and Josh Brunner (15-5). In seventh place was Ashton Baumann with a mark of 14-11. 
  • High Jump:Mitchell Eldredge finished second in the high jump with a jump of 6-5. 
  • Long Jump: With a mark of 22-10 3/4, Allen Stupinean won the long jump while teammate Triton Schmidt finished second with a jump of 22-6 1/2.  
  • Triple Jump: The top two finishers in the triple jump came from UWL as Gabe Olsen won the event with a mark of 45-4 1/2 and Christian Crumbaker finished second (44-7). 
  • Discus: Anthony Staryszak was the Eagles top finisher in the discus as he finished finished with a mark of 149-6. 
  • Shot Put: In the shot put, three Eagles finished in the top four including Spencer Prats in second (53-7), Ben Youngworth in third (50-2 1/2) and Jake Gardner in fourth (50-1 3/4). 
  • Hammer Throw: Logan Powers and Staryszak finished in the top five of the hammer throw. Powers finished second (186-3) and Staryszak was fifth (175-9). 

    TRACK EVENTS 
  • 1500-meter run: UWL had seven of the top eight finishers in the 1500-meter run including the top five finishers. Jayden Zywicki won the event with a time of 3:50.16 while Cael Schoemann was second (3:53.27), Nico Castellanos third (3:53.52), Owen Layton fourth (3:58.29) and Chase Altergott fifth (4:00.77).  Also finishing in the top seven for the Eagles in the 1500-meter run was Aiden Jakubic in sixth (4:01.12) and Aidan Manning in seventh (4:02.22). 
  • 400-meter run: In the 400-meter run, Isaac Henkel finished third with a time of 50.05. Also finishing in the top eight was Nolan Seaberg in seventh (51.23) and Trent Backeberg in eighth (51.23). 
  • 400-meter hurdles: Bryant Yanke finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.68.
