Alexis McMahon of
San Jose, Calif. (Valley Christian) have been named to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Region IX Team. Allan, Anger, Arndt and McMahon were selected to the Region IX First Team while Behnke was named to the Second Team.
Ainsley Allan
A total of 13 players were voted to the all-region first, second and third teams. It is the second career all-region honor for McMahon, who was selected to the 2021 Region IX Second Team.
Allan, Arndt, Behnke and McMahon were all named to the 2022 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team.
Allan was voted the WIAC Kwik Trip Offensive Player of the Year, the third player in school history to earn the honor. She joins
Margaret Harrings (2017, 2018) and
Sophie Amundson (2021) in earing the award. Starting all 24 games this season, Allan led UWL and the WIAC in goals (15), points (32), game-winning goals (7), shots (86) and shots on goal (46). Her 15 goals this year rank fifth in single-season school history while her 32 points rank seventh.
Alexis McMahon
Allan recorded game-winning goals versus Wheaton College (Ill.), St. Norbert College (Wis.), UW-Stevens Point, UW-River Falls, Luther College (Iowa), UW-Oshkosh and Illinois Wesleyan University. Her goal versus Illinois Wesleyan came in UWL's 1-0 victory in the NCAA Division III Second Round. She tallied two goals in the victory over St. Norbert (Wis.) and finished with two goals and one assist in the win over UW-Oshkosh. Allan had at least one goal in 10 different games.
Ellie Arndt
Selected the 2022 WIAC Kwik Trip Defensive Player of the Year, McMahon also started all 24 contests this year. She is the fifth player in UWL history to earn the WIAC Defensive Player of the Year Award, joining
Saskia Taylor (2012),
Kourtni Alcock (2015),
Maya Schmitt (2017, 2018) and
Katie Feller (2019). McMahon recorded four goals, three assists and 11 points this year. She had the game-winning goal in the Eagles' victory over the University of Dubuque (Iowa).
McMahon helped lead UWL to record 14 shutouts this season and a 0.67 goals against average. The 14 shutouts tied the school record of 14 set in 2017. The Eagles allowed 16 goals and 14 assists in 24 games. UWL's 14 shutouts and 0.67 goals against average both led the WIAC.
Arndt finished second for UWL in shots (68) and shots on goal (37) while being third in assists (7) and tied for fourth in points (15). She also has scored four goals. Arndt ranked second in shots on goal in the WIAC and fourth in shots while starting all 24 games. She had two assists against St. Norbert (Wis.) and a pair of goals versus UW-River Falls.
Ellie Behnke
Recording one goal and one assist, Behnke was fourth for the Eagles with 49 shots. She had 12 shots on goal. Behnke had a goal in a win over the University of Dubuque (Iowa) while having an assist in victories over Luther College (Iowa) and Greenville University (Ill.). She started all 24 games.
Sophie Anger
Anger played in 13 games in goal, including four starts, while finishing 11-0-1 with 6.5 shutouts. She recorded a 0.54 goals against average, allowing six goals and recording 52 saves. Anger earned individual shutout victories over California Lutheran University, Chapman University (Calif.), UW-Stevens Point, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh.
UWL finished 21-2-1 overall and 7-0 in the WIAC under head coach
Jason Murphy while advancing to the NCAA Division III Third Round. Making its fifth appearance (2015, 2017-18, 2021-22) in the national championships, UWL is now 8-4-3 all-time in the tournament. All five appearances have come under Murphy. The Eagles have advanced to the national quarterfinals (2017, 2021) and third round (2018, 2022) twice.
UWL's 21 wins this year set a single-season school record, breaking the record of 20 set in 2017. The Eagles won 14 straight games in 2022, tying the school record set in 2018.
