Reedsburg, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse golf team sits in second-place after two rounds of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Saturday at Reedsburg Country Club. The Eagles finished day two with a score of 335 and have a tournament total of 659.Â
UWL is two shots behind UW-Whitewater, the five-time defending champion, who shot a 328 on Saturday and have a tournament total of 657. UW-Stout is in third place (689) followed by UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point who are tied for fourth with a score of 694. In sixth is UW-Platteville (699) while UW-River Falls (705) is in seventh and UW-Oshkosh is in eighth (720).Â
Lexi Meade of UW-Eau Claire sits in first place individually with a two-day total of 157 (79-78).Â
Maija Tanberg is the top UWL scorer after two rounds as she is tied for second-place with a 159 (78-81). Three strokes back for the Eagles is
Molly Larsen in a tie for fourth-place with a 162 (77-85). Also in the top-10 for the Eagles is
Andrea Schleeper who is tied for eighth (167, 82-85). Next for the Eagles is
Grace Ellison (171, 87-84) who is tied for 14th while
Sophie Denure (176, 89-87) is in 33rd place.Â
Playing as individuals for the Eagles, Erin Rosencratz is currently tied for 14th (171, 83-88) while
Allison Balduzzi (175, 88-87) and
Lauren Ambrookian (175, 89-86) are tied for 28th.
Claire Kelbel is in 34th-place (178, 87-91) with
Abby DeMoe tied 37th (180, 86-94) and
Keila Kittelson tied for 58th (193, 98-95).Â
A total of 76 golfers have completed the first two rounds.
UWL is in its fifth year of varsity competition since returning in 2018. The Eagles finished sixth at the 2019 WIAC Championships and seventh in 2018. Six current members on UWL's roster have played in the conference championships, including Larsen, Tanberg and Kittelson making their fourth career appearance. UWL had a pair of golfers finish in the top-10 last season, including Larsen who finished fifth overall and Schleeper who tied for seventh. Four other Eagles finished in the top-25, including Tanberg (13th), Denure (tied 18th), Rosencrantz (23rd) and DeMoe (25th).
The third and final round will be played on Sunday, October 9 starting at 9:30 a.m.
