Reedsburg, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse golf team leads after the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Friday at Reedsburg Country Club. The Eagles finished with a first-day total of 324.
UW-Whitewater, the five-time defending champion, is in second-place with a round of 329. UW-Stevens Point is in third-place (342) followed by UW-Platteville (345), UW-Eau Claire (349), UW-Stout (353), UW-River Falls (355) and UW-Oshkosh (365).
UWL's
Molly Larsen is tied for the lead after a round of 77 (+5) with UW-Whitewater's Ashton Sinak.
The Eagles'
Maija Tanberg is in third-place with a round of 78 (+6) while
Andrea Schleeper is tied for eighth at 82 (+10).
Erin Rosencrantz is tied for 11th at 83 (+11) with
Abby DeMoe tied for 19th at 86 (+14).
Grace Ellison and
Claire Kelbel are tied for 21st (87, +15) while
Allison Balduzzi is tied for 26th (88, +16). UWL's
Sophie Denure and
Lauren Ambrookian are tied for 30th (89, +17) while
Keila Kittelson is tied for 60th (98, +26).
Sydney Nelson was forced to withdraw.
A total of 76 golfers completed the opening round.
UWL is in its fifth year of varsity competition since returning in 2018. The Eagles finished sixth at the 2019 WIAC Championships and seventh in 2018. Six current members on UWL's roster have played in the conference championships, including Larsen, Tanberg and Kittelson making their fourth career appearance. UWL had a pair of golfers finish in the top-10 last season, including Larsen who finished fifth overall and Schleeper who tied for seventh. Four other Eagles finished in the top-25, including Tanberg (13th), Denure (tied 18th), Rosencrantz (23rd) and DeMoe (25th).
