Mount Vernon, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team, first on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Top-Ten Dual Rankings, placed sixth at the Cornell College (Iowa) Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational Saturday. The Eagles finished with 63.0 team points while Augsburg University (Minn.) won the title with 186.0. A total of nine teams competed.
UWL is seventh in the NWCA Top-Ten Tournament Rankings.
The Eagles'
Seth Brossard captured the 165-pound title with a 4-0 record, earning three wins by fall. He opened with a fall (1:29) over Brennan Graber of Luther College (Iowa) before a technical fall (16-0) over Drew Venteicher of Loras College (Iowa) in the quarterfinals. Brossard, ranked fifth in the NWCA, won by fall (2:07) over Preston Schuelke of Luther (Iowa) in the semifinals and captured the title with a fall (1:53) over 13th-ranked Casey Allen of Cornell (Iowa).
Nolan Paar placed second at 174-pounds.
Nolan Paar finished second at 174-pounds Saturday, going 3-1 on the day. After receiving a first-round bye, he won by technical fall (18-2) over Cael Cassady of the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in the second round. Paar won by fall (1:00) over Caelen Shannon of Iowa Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals nad by decision (7-2) over teammate
Leo Draveling in the semifinals. Paar dropped the title match by major decision (13-3) to third-ranked Solomon Nielsen of Augsburg (Minn.).
Noah Leisgang and
Kaleb O'Reilly both went 4-1 at 165-pounds for UWL with the third-place match between the two not being contested. O'Reilly earned one win by fall, one by technical fall and one by major decision while Leisgang earned one victory by major decision.
UWL's
Wyatt Simon (174) and
Ben Kawczynski (285) each finished fourth in the tournament. Simon went 4-2 with two wins by fall. He dropped the third-place match by decision (8-6) to Dahson Dejong of Cornell (Iowa). Kawczynski finished fourth with a 3-1 record, earning two wins by fall.
Draveling (174) was sixth for the Eagles with a 2-1 record. He earned one win by fall.
UWL's
Logan Stafford (197) went 1-1 Saturday while
Michael Douglas (285) finished 2-2 with one win by fall.
Dawson Dembroski (165) went 1-2, recording his win by fall.
