Athens, Ohio - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 42-3 victory over Baldwin-Wallace University (Ohio) Saturday night in the Ohio Showcase at the Convocation Center.
UWL, ranked fifth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III, improve to 2-0 on the season.
Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio), tied for 20
th in the rankings, fell to 0-1.
The dual started at 165-pounds with UWL's
Tanner Gerber, ranked second in the NWCA, earning a technical fall (17-2, 6:04) over fourth-ranked Andrew Supers to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead. Fourth-ranked
Eddie Simes followed with a win by decision (9-5) over Thomas West at 174 to extend the team lead to 8-0. West is ranked ninth at 157-pounds.
Tate Flege gave UWL a 12-0 advantage at 184-pounds with a major decision (10-0) over 10
th-ranked Remington Bauer.
The Eagles'
Tyler Dormanen won by fall (4:28) over the Yellowjackets' Dominic Pagan at 197-pounds and
Markos Mihalopoulos earned a win by decision (13-6) over 10
th-ranked Christian McChesney at 285-pounds for a 21-0 lead.
UWL won the next three matches by fall to extend its lead to 39-0. Fifth-ranked
Quintin Wolbert won by fall (4:12) over Kiernan Magee at 125-pounds while ninth-ranked
Wyatt Magolski defeated David Fielder by fall (3:48) at 133.
Talan Schutte's fall (4:10) at 141-pounds over Blake Aumiller made it 39-0. Schutte is ranked 11
th in the country.
Joe Penchi won by decision (2-0) over Emmanuel Scordos at 149-pounds.
Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) got on the scoreboard as Braeden Stallworth won by sudden victory (4-1) over
Zane AlObaidi at 157-pounds.
The Ohio Showcase was hosted by Ohio University, featuring duals with NCAA Division I, II and III institutions. In the NCAA Division I, dual Ohio University defeated Morgan State University (Md.), 44-2, while in NCAA Division II, Ashland University (Ohio) earned a 21-19 victory over the University of Indianapolis (Ind.).
UWL returns to action Saturday, November 15 at the Luther College (Iowa) Open at 9 a.m.
