Wrestling Defeats Cornell At Wisconsin Showcase; Competes At Yellow Jacket Open

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team opened the 2025-26 season with a win over Cornell College (Iowa) at the Wisconsin Showcase while also having team members compete at the Yellow Jacket Open hosted by Rochester Community and Technical College (Minn.) on Saturday. 
 
THE BASICS
  • Results: UW-La Crosse defeated Cornell College (Iowa) 39-7. 
  • Location: UW Field House, Madison, Wis. 
  • Results: No team results were kept at the Yellow Jacket Open.
  • Location: RCTC Field House, Rochester, Minn.
  • Up Next: The Eagles will travel to Athens, Ohio to compete against Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio) in the Ohio Showcase on Saturday, November 8.

    UW-La Crosse 39, Cornell College (Iowa) 7
  • 125 Quintin Wolbert pinned Jase Van Pelt (5:44).
  • 133 - Eli Sneed defeated Wyatt Magolski 4-1.
  • 141 - With a 6-3 decision, Talan Schutte defeated Dylan Heater. 
  • 149 - Joe Penchi won by fall (:18) over Cooper Ludwig. 
  • 157 - AJ Parrish earned Cornell their second win of the day as he won by major decision (9-0) over Zane AlObaidi.  
  • 165 - Tanner Gerber won by major decision (11-1) over Brian Petry. 
  • 174 - Eddie Simes earned the Eagles third fall of the day as he pinned Logan Pausch (:49).
  • 184 - Tate Flege recorded a win by major decision (18-6) over Austin Wilkins.
  • 197 - With another major decision (9-0), Tyler Dormanen defeated Jackson Brinker.
  • 285 - Carter Lueck won by fall (5:14) over Braydon Hoffman. 

      Individual Results from Yellow 
  • 125 - Grant Madl finished 4-1 to finish second overall. Madl lost 9-3 to Carlo Arreola (Southwest State) in his championship. Cole Gentsch finished sixth after going 5-2 on the day. Gentsch recorded two falls and two wins by decision along with a forfeit. Roman McKinney and Aiden Slama both finished 2-2 on the day. 
  • 133 - Teague Holzer won his first two matches including a fall (2:33) over Mitch Kremer in his first round match. Holzer then lost 6-1 to Tegan Sherk (Iowa Central Community College) in the quarterfinals. Then in Holzer's consolation round match, Muhammad Bilai won by technical fall (21-6). 
  • 141 - Marcus McIntyre and Mycah Beckett both placed for the Eagles on Saturday. McIntyre won his first two matches by fall and his quarterfinal match by decision (8-7). After losing his semifinal match to Draven Johns (St. Cloud State) 8-6, McIntyre won his third place match via a medical forfeit to finish third. Beckett went 3-2 on the day to finish eighth. Austin Herbst went 2-2 overall. 
  • 149 - Aidan Baum lost his first match but then won four straight matches to advance to the seventh place match. Baum finished eighth after losing by major decision (20-7) to William Penn (Iowa Lakes Community College). Kellen Kelly recorded a technical fall in his first match and his second match by fall over Nicolas Kreger (Rochester Community Technical College) before falling in his final two matches. 
  • 157 - Kolt Knaack went 3-2 while Brady Dorshorst went 2-2 at 157. Knaack's three wins came by fall while Dorshorst recorded one fall. 
  • 165 - Ashton Meister finished second while Ryland Schneider was third. Meister recorded three major decisions and lost to Gabriel Smith (St. Cloud State) by technical fall in the finals. Schneider finished with two falls and two technical falls as he defeated Jacob Marshall (Iowa Community Central College) 15-0 in the third place match. 
  • 174 - Jack Gillis won his first two matches by fall before he lost to Tristan Drier 6-2. Gillis would then advance by major decision (11-2) over Mason Seidl (UW-Eau Claire). An 8-1 decision over CJ Mikeley (Iowa Central Community College) to finish sixth. 
  • 184 - Kash Macumber and Ryan Lexvold both finished 3-1 on the day while Sedeeq AlObaidi went 2-2. 
  • 285 - Landon Odegard finished the day 1-2 with his lone win coming by fall (4:35) over Jeremiah Chuol of Iowa Lakes Community College.
