Box Score Duluth, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 17th in the United Soccer Coaches National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Preseason Poll, opened its 2019 season with a 7-1 victory at The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) Friday afternoon. The Saints were also playing their season-opener.
UWL's
Sophie Amundson scored the first four goals of the game. She made it 1-0 at 4:25 assisted by
Lauren Yass. Amundson tallied three goals in less than a 5:00 period, scoring at 16:24 for a 2-0 lead on
Ainsley Allan's assist. Amundson gave UWL a 3-0 advantage at 18:21 assisted by
Kaitlyn Villars and then made it 4-0 at 21:09 with Allan recording her second assist.
The Eagles kept the Saints scoreless until Mara Roberts found the back of the net at 33:24 to cut the lead to 4-1. UWL's offense quickly answered back with a goal at 34:56 by McKenna Falbo assisted by Lizzy Eggers for a 5-1 lead.

UWL led 5-1 at halftime, finishing with 10 shots and holding St. Scholastica (Minn.) to two.
Hayley Hargroder gave the Eagles a 6-1 lead at 48:24 assisted by Amundson and Allan, who recorded her third of the game. Villars finished the scoring at 50:03 assisted by Yass for a 7-1 final score.
Lily Brock played the first half in goal while earning the win. Quinn Shannon (27:45) and Lauren Freeck (17:15) played in the second half in goal.
UWL finished with 24 shots overall, recording 14 in the second half. St. Scholastica (Minn.) was held without a shot in the second half. The Saints had two shots in the game with one on goal.
Amundson had five shots with four on goal. Elle Leider finished with four shots, including one on goal. Villars recorded three shots with two on goal. Amundson is the third player in UWL history to record four goals in the game, including the first since Jessica Manchester had a school record five versus UW-Superior on September 16, 2000. Jennifer Tischaefer also had a UWL record five goals against UW-Superior on October 23, 1999. Tischaefer finished with four goals versus UW-Superior on September 6, 1997 and October 30, 1998.
Allan's three assists is tied for third in single-game school history. She is the first player since Natalie Herzog had three versus MSOE (Wis.) on October 21, 2018. Tischaefer had a school record six assists against Viterbo University (Wis.) on October 2, 1996 while also recording four versus UW-Superior on September 6, 1997.
Chiara DeLuca suffered the loss for St. Scholastica (Minn.) Friday, finishing with two saves while playing the first half. Alexa Gothard had three saves in the second half.
UWL returns to action Saturday, August 31 at College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) at 2 p.m.
