WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Presented by Culver's)
Whitewater, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track and field team won its 18th straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship (Presented by Culver's) Saturday night at UW-Whitewater's Kachel Fieldhouse. The Eagles took their 44th title in school history with 189.50 points. UW-Oshkosh was second with 104.00 points and UW-Platteville third with 90.00.
UW-Whitewater was fourth (88.00) followed by UW-Eau Claire (74.50), UW-Stevens Point (61.00), UW-Stout (52.00) and UW-River Falls (3.00).
UWL had three individual champions on Saturday, including
Andrew Jarrett who won his second straight weight throw title (69-7 1/2). His throw set an WIAC meet record, breaking the mark of 67-7 set by UWL's Kevin Becker in 2005. Jarrett's throw currently ranks first in NCAA Division III. He became the first thrower to win back-to-back crowns since Pete Delzer of UW-Oshkosh in 2012-13.
Seth Holden won the 60-meter dash (6.83) and
Joshua Schraeder the 3,000-meter run (8:20.42) on Saturday. Holden is the first UWL runner to win the 60-meter dash since Zach Lee won the 55-meter dash in 2011. Schraeder became the first UWL runner to capture the 3,000-meter run since David Stilin in 2013.
The Eagles'
Christian Morzinski was second (60-2) and
Justin Donkin fifth (58-3 1/4) in the weight throw Saturday while
Jacob Teunas placed second (48-1 3/4) and
Samuel Sadowski sixth (45-5 1/4) in the triple jump.
On the track,
Josh Koenecke was second (6.84) and
Troy DeBruin eighth (7.06) in the 60-meter dash while Holden finished third (22.00) and Koenecke fourth (22.19) in the 200-meter dash.
Michael Austin Bates placed second (8.16) in the 60-meter hurdles.
UWL had three finishers in the top-eight in the 800-meter run with Sam Hinz second (1:54.35),
Jake Sullivan seventh (1:57.15) and
Brian Hansford eighth (1:57.25).
Collin Meyer,
Charlie Handrick,
Joshua Desorcy and
Will Seeser were fourth (3:21.30) in the 4x400-meter relay.
Noah Meeteer finished fourth (4,987 points) and
Ben Jones fifth (4,707) in the heptathlon.
Mitchell Maegaard was named to the 2019 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team. The WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team is chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It includes one member from each school.
UWL returns to action Friday, March 1 at the UW-Platteville Final Qualifer and Wartburg College (Iowa) Qualifier.
