Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team wrapped up its spring trip with a pair of victories Saturday in the Tucson Invitational Games. The Eagles earned a 2-1 win over Lewis & Clark College (Ore.) and a 4-2 victory over the University of Dubuque (Iowa). UW-L improves to 14-6 on the season, including a 10-2 record in the Tucson Invitational Games.
In the win over Lewis & Clark (Ore.),
Megan Nelson and
Katie Klein combined on the victory. Nelson earned the win, going 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits, one run and two walks with one strikeout. Klein picked up the save, pitching 2.0 innings with two walks and one strikeout.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
Katrina O'Keefe scored UW-L's first run on a Lewis & Clark (Ore.) error while
Erin Maletzke came in on
Emily Holldorf's infield single to make it 2-0.
The Pioneers scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Haley Robinson scored on Hannah Dal Pra's single. Maddie Lee was thrown out at home on Dal Pra's single to secure UW-L's one-run lead.
Lewis & Clark (Ore.) left the bases-loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning and stranded the potential tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh.
Holldorf went 2-for-4 with an RBI for UW-L while Maletzke finished 2-for-2 with a run scored.
UW-L earned its fourth straight win over Dubuque (Iowa) with Saturday's victory. The Eagles defeated the Spartans in Rochester, Minnesota on March 6 (7-2) and March 7 (4-2) and in Tucson Friday (3-1).
In Saturday's win,
Jessie Carignan and Klein combined on a four-hitter. Carignan earned the victory, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three hits and two runs with one strikeout while Klein picked up her second save of the day. She went 3.0 innings versus Dubuque (Iowa), allowing one hit with three strikeouts.
Dubuque (Iowa) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Meggie Schmidt scored on a UW-L error and Andrea Smith came in on Carlee Grunder's RBI groundout. UW-L tallied three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 advantage. All three runs came with two outs.
Alecia Faber scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 2-1 followed by
Kerrigan Koch's two-run single knocking in Maletzke and
Lane Dickman.
The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the third to make it 4-2 as
Kelli Anderson scored on a wild pitch.
Six different players had a hit for UW-L.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, April 11 hosting UW-Stout in its home opener at 2 p.m. at North Campus Field. It will also be the Eagles' Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener.
