Box Score 2 Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team dropped a pair of games at UW-Stout Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Blue Devils earned a 5-2 victory in the opener and 4-0 in the nightcap. UW-L falls to 21-11 overall and finish 9-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-Stout improves to 24-10 overall and 11-1 in the conference. The Blue Devils have four WIAC games remaining.
In Saturday's opener, UW-Stout took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on Heather Bol's two-run single. UW-L cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third as
Emily Holldorf scored on
Katie Fink's single. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth on Jessica Behnke's two-run single. Hannah Sweet's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth made it 5-1.
UW-L finished the scoring in the seventh with
Jenny Gallagher scoring on
Kallie Krech's sacrifice fly.
Megan Nelson (8-5) took the loss for UW-L in the opener, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing five hits, four runs (three earned) and two walks with one strikeout. Four different Eagles had a hit.
Tori Workman (17-8) earned the victory for UW-Stout, going 7.0 innings. She allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk with six strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored while Behnke and Bol each had two RBI.
In the nightcap, UW-Stout took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Behnke's three-run home run. The Blue Devils made it 4-0 in the fourth.
Heather Grelle (6-4) suffered the loss for the Eagles in the nightcap, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing five hits, three runs and two walks with one strikeout.
Mary Kate Pryor was 2-for-3 for UW-L as the team was held to five hits.
Workman (18-8) also picked up the win in the nightcap for the Blue Devils. She pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five hits and two walks with one strikeout. Workman went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Sweet finished 2-for-2. Behnke had three RBI.
UW-L wraps up its regular season Tuesday, April 29 hosting the University of Dubuque (Iowa) at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader at North Campus Field.
