WIAC Championships Results
Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad placed third at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships Saturday afternoon at UW-Platteville. The Eagles totaled 133 points while UW-Oshkosh captured the league crown with 185 points. UW-Eau Claire was second with 143.
UW-Whitewater placed fourth (102 points) followed by UW-Stevens Point (96), UW-River Falls (83), UW-Stout (63), UW-Platteville (48) and UW-Superior (5).
In Saturday's action, UW-L captured the 4x100-meter relay with the team of
Kailey Charlton,
Caitlin Wippermann,
Maggie May and
Laurel Beck (47.36). The Eagles were second in the 4x400-meter relay with Wippermann,
Rebecca Scheuermann,
Jenna Halvorson and Beck (3:54.13).
Individually,
Leeanne Nowicki finished second (4,332 points) and
Sheila Opelt third (4,293) in the heptathlon.
On the track, Charlton placed second in the 100 (12.02) and 200 (24.72) meter dashes while Wippermann was third in the 200 (24.73) and fourth in the 100 (12.27). Charlton set a school record in the 100-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 11.94. She breaks the record of 11.99 set by
Jena Durnin in 2006.
Hannah Mueller placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.37) Saturday.
Beck was also fourth in the 400-meter dash (57.75) while Scheuermann was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:16.65).
In the field events, May finished fifth (36-10 1/4) and Mueller sixth (35-3 1/4) in the triple jump while Kayla
Ashland finished sixth in the high jump (5-3 3/4).
UW-L returns to action Friday, May 13 hosting the UW-L Invitational at 4 p.m.
