Charlton and Ashland Win Events; Relays First

Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team continued its outdoor season at the UW-Platteville Invitational Saturday afternoon. No team scores were kept, but the Eagles had a pair of individual winners and first-place relays.

Individually, UW-L's Kailey Charlton took the 100-meter dash (12.16) and long jump (17-8) while Kayla Ashland captured the high jump (5-3 3/4). Charlton was also second in the 200-meter dash (24.99).

The Eagles' swept the 4x100 (48.12) and 4x400 (3:55.12) meter relays Saturday.

Other top finishers on the track included Maggie May second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.40) while Caitlin Wippermann was third in the 100-meter dash (12.55) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.17).

Laurel Beck finished fourth (58.25) and teammate Rebecca Scheuermann fifth (58.92) in the 400-meter dash while Rachel Schroeder was fifth (11:40.65) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hannah Mueller finished fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.97).

In the field events, May was second in the triple jump (36-7 1/2) while Sheila Opelt was second (17-4 /14) and Leeanne Nowicki third (16-9 3/4) in the long jump.

Katlin Genthe placed third (10-8) and Christy Moses tied for fourth (10-2) in the pole vault. The Eagles' Morgan Phalen was fifth (95-11) in the javelin throw.

UW-L returns to action Friday, April 15 hosting the Esten Challenge beginning at 3 p.m.
