UW-L Sweeps Dual Matches

Andrea Vivian went 2-0 at No. 6 singles Saturday.
Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four straight with a pair of duals victories Saturday at the Clark Racquet Center.  The Eagles earned a 5-4 victory over host Coe College (Iowa) before coming back to pick up a 6-3 win over Augustana College (Ill.).  UW-L is now 18-4 on the season.

Versus Coe, each squad came away with three singles victories.  UW-L's Mara Weiner won at No. 4 singles over Sara Ohlman (6-0, 6-1) while Abby Tresedder defeated Natalie Bordignon at No. 5 (6-2, 6-2) and Andrea Vivian beat Elizabeth Hoffmann at No. 6 (6-0, 6-3).

The Kohawks won at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles. Hannah Jensen defeated Kelly Stadum at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1); Michelle Schupbach beat Katie McDonald at No. 2 (6-3, 6-0) and Tai Lucero defeated Jenny Maruyama at No. 3 (6-0, 6-2).

UW-L took two of three doubles matches to earn the dual victory. Maruyama/Tresedder defeated Bordignon/Ohlman at No. 2 (8-3) and Julia Johnson/Karie Williams defeated Jensen/Hoffmann at No. 3 (8-4).

Coe's Schupbach/Lucero won at No. 1 doubles over Stadum/Olivia Hartwick (8-0).

Against Augustana, UW-L won four of the six singles matches. Maruyama defeated Tricia Sapio at No. 3 (6-4, 6-2); Weiner beat Krista Panko at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0); Tresedder defeated Brittany Reece at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and Vivian beat Sheri Hendricks at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1).

The Vikings' Kim Sawyer beat Stadum at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-2) and Shannen McNamara defeated McDonald at No. 2 (6-2, 7-5).

In doubles competition, the Eagles won two matches.  Maruyama/Tresedder beat Sapio/Hendricks at No. 2 (8-4) and Johnson/Williams defeated Reece/Panko at No. 3 (8-6).

Augustana's Sawyer/McNamara won at No. 1 doubles over Stadum/Hartwick (8-2).

UW-L returns to action Sunday, April 17 with a pair of matches in Madison, Wis.  The Eagles face Carthage College (Wis.) at 1 p.m. and Edgewood College (Wis.) at 4 p.m.
