UW-L Wins Eleven Events in Dual Victory

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field squad earned an 82-54 dual victory over Winona State University (Minn.) Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles won nine individual events as well as both relays. UW-L's Kailey Charlton provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Indoor Championships in two events.

Charlton won the long jump (18-0 1/2) and placed second in the 55-meter dash (7.15) to qualify for the national meet. She was also second in the 200-meter dash (26.40).

UW-L's Maggie May won the 55-meter hurdles (8.50) and also provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Championships.

The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay also finished first (3:59.45) and met provisionally qualifying status.

Other winners on the track included Caitlin Wipperman in the 200-meter dash (26.14), Megan Stats in the mile run (5:17.08), Kristin Lillie in the 800-meter run (2:21.23), Rachel Schroeder in the 3,000-meter run (10:45.55) and Amy Pawelko in the 5,000-meter run (19:44.13). UW-L captured the distance medley relay (13:01.43).

In the field events, Amy Jo Garinger took the high jump (5-4 1/4) and Katlin Genthe the pole vault (11-1 3/4).

Second-place finishes on the track for UW-L included Rebecca Scheuermann in the 400-meter dash (59.98), Kelsey Boyle in the 3,000-meter run (10:58.54) and Leigh-Ann DesRoches in the 5,000-meter run (20:10.84). Third-place results included Leeanne Nowicki in the 55-meter hurdles (9.01), Abby Gustafson in the 800-meter run (2:23.28), Emma Crawford in the mile (5:21.14) and Johanna Sumnicht in the 3,000-meter run (11:07.00).

In the field events, Christy Moses was second in the pole vault (10-8) while Meghan Thomas was second (5-2 1/4) and Nowicki third (5-2 1/4) in the high jump.

UW-L returns to action at the WIAC Indoor Championships February 25-26 at UW-Stout.
