Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team fell, 5-0, in the first game of a doubleheader at UW-Oshkosh Friday afternoon at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Field. The second game was halted due to weather with UWL leading, 4-0, in the top of the second inning. No make-up date has been set.
UWL is now 16-10 overall and 1-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-Oshkosh is 19-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Titans are ranked 16th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 Poll.
Kiran Sanford (11-1) earned the complete-game shutout in the opener for UW-Oshkosh, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing two hits while striking out eight.
The Titans took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Mary Kate Quaid and Sarah Hammerton had back-to-back doubles to make it 1-0 and Haylie Wittman followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead. Brianne Lopez singled with one out in the third inning and went to second on Emma Bohn's sacrifice bunt. Olivia Ullman's run-scoring double scored Lopez to make it 3-0.
Bohn's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth scored Oliva Baugnet for a 4-0 advantage and Quaid's solo home run in the sixth finished the scoring.
Carmen Follette (6-3) suffered the loss in the opener. She went 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits, five runs (four earned) with six strikeouts. UWL was held to two hits, both coming from
Marissa Pease who finished 2-for-3.
The Titans totaled nine hits with Lopez, Quaid and Hammerton each going 2-for-3.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, April 21 hosting UW-Platteville at 2 p.m. Â
