La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season with a 12-8 loss to Carroll University (Wis.) Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The Eagles drop to 4-1 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 6-0.

Carroll (Wis.) never trailed Saturday, scoring five of the first six goals. Elizabeth Wang started the scoring at 14:36, but UWL's
Ava Schiltz tied it at 1-1 with 12:36 remaining in the first quarter. The Pioneers scored the next four goals. Paige Helms gave Carroll (Wis.) the lead with 11:36 left. Wang and Helms added goals to extend the lead to 5-1.
Tori Katzenmeyer's goal for UWL with 1:42 remaining in the second quarter cut the lead to 5-2 and
Evie Brilz made it 5-3 with 1:12 left.
The Eagles cut the deficit to 5-4 on
Adison Brown's goal with 12:05 remaining in the second quarter, but goals by Elaina Phaneuf and Wang gave the Pioneers a 7-4 advantage.
Megan Maloney (7:43 left) and
Anna Millard (5:14) notched goals for UWL to cut it to 7-6 before Helms gave Carroll (Wis.) an 8-6 halftime lead with a goal with 2:20 remaining.
Helms' man-up goal off Rebecca Hallman's assist with 10:08 left in the third quarter made it 9-6. Maloney scored with 6:33 remaining to cut it to 9-7 before Phanefu, Lauren Fricke and Sierra Skack gave the Pioneers a 12-7 lead. Fricke and Skack both scored man-up goals.
Katzenmeyer finished the scoring for UWL with a man-up goal with 8:02 left in the game.
UWL finished with 24 shots, including 18 on goal. Maloney and Katzenmeyer led the Eagles with two goals each. Maloney had a team-high five draw controls.

Lucretia Morgan took the loss, finishing with 11 saves and team-high six ground balls.
Carroll (Wis.) totaled 31 shots with 23 on goal. Helms led the Pioneers with four goals and one assist with Wang finishing with three goals and two assists. Phaneuf scored twice. Helms and Wang each had a team-high five ground balls while Samantha Hurd recorded six draw controls.
Devon Duym earned the win, registering 10 saves.
UWL returns to action Friday, March 20 at Aurora University (Ill.) at 4 p.m.
