Men's Track and Field Set to Compete at NCAA III Nationals, Looks To Win Fourth Straight Indoor Championship

La Crosse, Wis. - 
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track and field team is set to compete at the 2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championships Friday-Saturday, March 14-15 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala. The Southern Athletic Association and the Birmingham CrossPlex are serving as hosts of the championships. Events start on Friday at 10:20 a.m. with competition starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

EAGLE HISTORY AT THE NCAA III INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • UWL has won an NCAA Division III record 21 indoor titles, including 14 of the last 22.
  • UWL has finished in the top-five in 37 of a possible 38 indoor national championships.
  • The Eagles have earned 426 indoor All-American honors, the most in NCAA III history.
  • UWL has crowned an NCAA Division III record 48 individual indoor champions. 
  • UWL is coming off winning the NCAA III Indoor Championships in 2023, 2024 and 2024. At the 2025 NCAA III Indoor Championships, UWL scored 84 points which broke the NCAA III record for points at the National Championships; breaking the previous record of 78 points which was set in the 2006 by the Eagles. UW-Oshkosh finished second with 39 points while Rowan University (NJ) was third with 32 points.

FIELD EVENTS
  • Pole Vault – The Eagles have four individuals competing in the pole vault led by Connor Boyle who qualified with the third highest mark of 16-8 3/4). Joining Boyle will be Andrew Tumminaro (16-5 1/4),  Josh Brunner (16-4 3/4) and Gaven Lange (16-3). 
  • Triple Jump – Carter Pearson qualified with the sixth highest mark (49-1 1/4) while Gavin Sargeant also qualified (48-0 1/2). 
  • Shot Put – Ben Youngworth will represent the Eagles in the shot put as he qualified with a throw of 55-0 3/4.
  • High Jump – With a jump of 6-10, Mitchell Eldredge qualified for the indoor championships. 
  • Weight Throw - Logan Powers (64-8 3/4) and Anthony Staryszak (61-11) will both compete for a national crown in the weight throw.
  • Heptathalon - UWL will have two individuals representing them in the heptathlon as Bryant Yanke (4792 points) and Nolan Seaberg (4992 points) 

    TRACK EVENTS   
  • 60-meter dash – Evan Maurud has the fifth fastest qualifying time coming into the Championships with a time of 6.72 while Landon Gaullun also qualified with a time so 6.79.  
  • 60-meter hurdles – Luke Schroeder broke the NCAA III indoor record (7.67) earlier this season and brings it to the championship this weekend. 
  • 200-meter run– Schroeder and Maurud also qualified for the championships in the 200-meter run. Maurud qualified with a time of 21.43 while Schroeder brings a time of 21.23.
  • 400-meter run – Collin Conzemius brings in the fastest time this season in the 400-meter run with a time of 46.68.Conzemius finished third at the 2025 Indoor Championships. Chase Doornink also qualified in the 400-meter run with a time of 47.55. 
  • 800-meter run – Cael Schoemann is the two-time defending national champion in the 800-meter run and comes in with the fastest time this season at 1:49.51.
  • Mile Nash Merklein (4:06.98) and Jayden Zywicki (4:04.69) will both look to score points for the Eagles in the mile. 
  • 3000 meter run – UWL will be represented by five athletes in the 3000-meter run. Joey Sullivan ran the third fastest time this season (8:08.69). Also qualifying is Aidan Matthai (8:05.46), Zywicki (8:07.34), Owen Clark (8:13.29) Charles Vater (8:09.36), Owen Clark (8:07.62), Joey Sullivan (8:03.07).
  • 5000 meter run – Matthai will look to improve on his 2025 NCAA All-American fourth place finish as he comes in with the third fastest time this season 13:58.61.
  • 4x400 meter relay - The relay team of Conzemius, Andrew Hackbarth, Doornink and Devin Williams qualified for the 4x400 meter relay with the fastest time this season of 3:13.10. 
  • Distance Medley Relay -  The relay team of Schoemann, Lucas Kraus, Tyler Heiman, Zywicki qualifed for the distance medley relay with the the fastest time this season of 9:48.10.
