UW-La Crosse Baseball to Host Four-Team NCAA III Regional

 The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned one of 23 at-large bids to the 2025 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships, the national committee announced Monday.  The Eagles (33-9) will host a four-team NCAA III Regional at Copeland Park in La Crosse following a double-elimination format.

NCAA DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT
  • A total of 64 teams earned bids to the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships. 16 regional sites will have four teams competing.
  • The 16 teams advancing from regionals will compete in a two-team, best-of-three tournament at eight super regional sites on Friday-Saturday, May 23-24.
  • The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, Friday-Thursday, May 31-June 4, 2025.
  • The final two teams will compete in a best-of-three series to determine the national champion.
  • Forty-one conference champions qualified automatically while their were 23 at-large bids. 
2025 NCAA III LA CROSSE REGIONAL AT COPELAND PARK

  • Joining the Eagles in the 2025 NCAA III Regional are Buena Vista University, Iowa (32-10, second seed), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Calif. (31-12, third-seed) and Bethany Lutheran College, Minnesota (29-12, fourth-seed).
  • Bethany Lutheran University (Upper Midwest Athletic Conference) and Buena Vista University (American River Conference) secured automatic bids after winning its conference tournaments. UW-La Crosse (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earned at-large bids to this years championships. 
  • UW-La Crosse and Bethany Lutheran College will play at 11 a.m. and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will play Buena Vista University at 2:30 p.m.
  • The regional follows a double-elimination format. The winning teams in the first round will play Saturday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m. while the losing teams from the first round will play an elimination game May 17 at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the 11 a.m. game and the loser of the 2:30 p.m. game will play an elimination game at 6:30 p.m.
  • The championship game is Sunday, May 18 at 11 a.m. If a second championship game is necessary it will be played 45 minutes following the conclusion of the first game on May 18.

EAGLES IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • The Eagles will be making its ninth appearance in the national tournament.(1998, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2023, 2024)
  • UWL is 29-21 all-time in the national tournament.
  • The Eagles earned an automatic bid last season (2024) by earning an at-large bid. UWL hosted a regional tournament, advancing to the second straight super regional before losing the best of the three series to UW-Whitewater (2-1).  The Eagles advanced out of the regional with by going 4-1 with wins over Bethel University (Minn.) (19-2), Benedcitine University (Ill.) (18-15) and Coe College (Iowa) (18-11, 9-7). UWL's loss came at the hands of Coe College in the second round of the tournament 12-11 in 10 innings. 
  • UWL made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in 2015 and 2016. UW-La Crosse made its first ever appearance in the NCAA III Championship in 2015 in Appleton, Wisconsin, advancing to the best-of-three championship series and a runner-up national finish. The Eagles other appearance in the NCAA III World Series came in the 2023. 
  • Head coach Chris Schwarz has led UW-La Crosse to eight NCAA III appearances. The Eagles won back-to-back NCAA III Midwest Regional titles at Copeland Park in 2015 (5-1 record) and 2016 (4-0) while winning an NCAA Super Regional in 2023.
