La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball program has announced the hiring of
Nellie George as an assistant coach.
"I am beyond excited to welcome Nellie to UWL, the Eagle volleyball program and our athletic department, commented Head Coach
Deb Sazama. "Her knowledge and passion for the game will have an immediate impact in our program. Nellie's ability to connect with and mentor young women will be impactful far beyond the court."

George officially joins the Eagles staff after serving last season as a volunteer assistant with the program. Prior to that, George spent 16 years in the high school ranks along with nine years coaching club volleyball.
"I'm beyond excited that I've been hired as assistant coach for the women's volleyball program," commented George. "This opportunity means the world to me, and I can't wait to contribute my passion, knowledge, and energy to help the team grow and succeed. It's an amazing feeling to be a part of such a talented and driven group of athletes. I'm thrilled to be joining an inspiring and dedicated staff at UW-L. It is clear there is a deep commitment to the success of the student athletes and I'm ready to start making a positive impact both on and off the court.
George served two different stints (2005-2008, 2017-2023) as the head coach at La Crosse Aquinas High School. During her time at Aquinas, George led the Blugolds to six Mississippi Valley Conference championships and 10 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) regional championships. She led her 2019 team to the WIAA State Championship game where they finished state runner-up.
Prior to Aquinas, George served as an assistant coach at several high schools including La Crosse Central, Cotter High School (Winona, Minn.) and Onalaska (Wis.). George also spent nine years coaching club volleyball for multiple clubs.
In addition to her coaching duties, George will serve as an events and facilities coordinator for the athletic department.
